Hi Brett,

The first album I ever bought was Dion's Runaround Sue, which must have been back in 1961. I was 13 years old at that time.

Mine was "Meet The Beatles."

I didn't know until decades later that there was such a difference between the British Beatle's albums and the American ones. It's really startling when you first find out.

Joshing... Marvin Gaye's first album was in 1961. It'd be a bit before a Greatest Hits would come along, although arguably, most of his recordings were great hits!

What a voice!!
kydave I thought about that too, seems like it might be 63 or 1964. I got 45's before albums. first 45 was Boney Maroney by I think, The Coasters. Early '60's.

To repeat what I posted to a similar thread titled, First Album Purchase, from 2007 (link below):
In the summer between fifth and six grade I bought my first two albums but I don't remember the order in which I bought them. I chose them unheard because they each had a guitar pictured on the cover.

Duane Eddy, Lonely Guitar RCA Victor 2798

Chet Atkins, Down Home RCA Victor...........[
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=109899

Incidentally, the Duane Eddy album cover is misleading because Duane only played an electric Gretsch guitar on the record. Though I have been aware of the deception since my teen years, it just now dawned on me that Chet didn’t play the Gibson pictured on the cover. I think he, too, only played an electric Gretsch guitar on the record.

Wow, I only was ever aware of the version with the song titles on the front which happens to be the version I once owned.

Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison. If memory serves me correctly, I was 11 or 12 ('68 or '69). Wasn't long after that, my uncle took me to my first ever concert to see Johnny Cash. What a show! Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters were there, as were the Statler Brothers.

I wish I still had the album. Don't know what happened to it, but I bet I played it a hundred times or more back then.

First album I could call my own was Willy and the Poorboys.

Down on the Corner just grabbed me and wouldn't let go. It drove me to learn the F chord when I took up the guitar. It's been part of my repertoire ever since.

My first album was The Righteous Brothers - Soul and Inspiration.

My second album was Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced

My musical tastes did not change, they just expanded.

The Ventures Play Telstar And The Lonely Bull was the first LP I ever bought. My favorite track was "Apache".

Rubber Soul. "It's Only Love."

Oh, and if you haven't made it over to the 33/45/78 thread, my first 45 was "Lightning Strikes" by Lou Christie.

My older brother had quite a collection of 45s and then albums so I listened to his whenever he was not home . I spent all my money ski racing.
I did not start buying music until The Doors first album "The Doors" early 1967. I was 17. After that the flood gates opened by the time I was 21, I had several hundred albums
