Millionaire politicians calling others 'folks'; 'Hey- we're all just plain, common folks.'

And speaking of mostly dead or all dead, it's interesting that hair and fingernails continue to grow for 2-3 days after death, but phone calls drop off drastically.

If, acronym, is no longer going to mean initials that are pronounced as a word but any set of initials, what word are we then going to use to distinguish, IBM, and,HP, from, NASA and NOAA?

If, hyperbole, is no longer going to mean deliberate exaggeration for rhetorical effect - not to be taken literally and instead going to mean, deceptive exaggeration, what are we going to call it when someone says, I am so hungry I could eat a horse?

Of course, language is dynamic and word meanings change over time but I don’t think we should merely shrug when someone misuses a word and say, that’s life, or, it is what it is, a phrase I prefer not to hear.

"All our agents are currently busy assisting other clients, please stay on the line,
your call is important to us" - in 2 official languages if you're in Canada.

Being 64 and getting multiple calls a day from people who want to "help" you decide what type of Medicare coverage you're going to need when you turn 65.

The also cause you to type run-on sentences.

Leave me alone.

NASA is an acronym. IBM is an initialism. That hasn't changed.

What I don't understand is why LED is an initialism ("ell ee dee") when it would be a perfectly good acronym ("led").

Yes I know what it means, however I happen to be in the first world, so when something does not go right, it's simply a problem.
No reason imo to compare to other situations.
In my neck of the woods (at least my local EveryBlock blog), I see “white people problems” used far more often than “first world problem.” Of course, the phenomena so labeled can happen to anyone regardless of race. Nevertheless, I find either variant of the term to be smug and repugnant verbal devices to distract from addressing the event, complaint or phenomenon in question--and often, to belittle or indirectly insult the person who reported the event or complaint as being shallow or elitist. Just because you have a roof over your head, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t mind if it leaks; if you can afford carfare you don’t have to accept consistently lousy transit service; and just because you can afford to lock your doors, it doesn’t mean you have no right to be upset if someone picks the lock or kicks down the door and steals your possessions.

It really irritates me when one person reports having had his pocket picked and someone chastises him by saying, “at least you can afford a wallet and have the money to put into it--typical first world problem.” I’d call such a remark an attempt at one-upsmanship, but the commenter almost never experiences true third world problems.

And a take-off on this theme: after spending a painful eternity trying to navigate the Verizon (or insert name) "customer service" adventure, only to get absolutely NOTHING in the way of assistance; and then be asked -- "Is there anything else I can do to help you?" I ve begun to remind them that they, in fact, have done nothing at all to help me.

"It is what it is."

Means nothing....a worthless comment. Of course, unless you watched St. Vincent. I liked his comment to its use. Murray said it means "you are screwed and you shall remain screwed."

It's a water heater, not a hot water heater. Why would you heat hot water?
