Do any of you good folks live in Tucson, Arizona?
If so, I wonder if you would mind if I private messaged you, asking for some advice about a possible visit to your fair city.
In return, I can offer lots of homespun info about the Ozarks. Thanks and you'uns have a great day! Marcus

Well, that went over like a lead balloon. What, do I have bad breath?

Actually I lived in Tucson during most of the 1970s (when the intersection of Speedway and Tanque Verde was wayyyyyyyyyy out in the desert) but that was back then . . . . |

I lived in Tucson from 1971, when I came back from Vietnam, until we moved to Mesa, AZ in 2004. The one speciality guitar shop I can recommend is Rainbow Guitars on Campbell. There is a large Guitar Center on Broadway. Another shop on Campbell, where I bought a OM21, is the Folk Center. The last time I was in there it had turned into more of a Folk art place with some instruments. That's about it from my experience.
If while you're in Tucson, if you travel up I-10 to the Phoenix area, make it a point to visit Acoustic Vibes Music in Tempe. It is the best acoustic guitar store I've ever been in. Enjoy your visit to the Sonoran Desert. It's both an interesting place to visit and a pretty good place to live. Dave |

It kinda depends on why you are going and what you want to do while there.
I don't live there, but I've visited a couple of time in the last few years. The in-laws live in Phoenix and old friends live in Tucson, so we sometimes combine visits. There are a couple of good guitar stores in town (the names escape me right now). One hosted a Taylor Road Show when we were there. There is also the Museum of the Desert, which is a pretty cool educational way to spend an afternoon. Then about an hour north of there is the Pima Air Museum and the "Boneyard" aka Davis-Monthan AFB, where the Air Force stores mothballed planes. Very cool if you are into airplanes. |

Never been there, but a close friend and her husband moved there years back. First email I got from her was a freak-out that the city was overrun by spiders (tarantulas? hairy wolf spiders? something like that). Might want to ask the natives when those particular phenomena occur, so you can be ready "in case."
We tend to be overrun by different critters here in Texas. Dirk |

I'm in Tucson every year for the gem show. There are great places to hike in the local parks, and Rainbow Music has an incredible inventory, with the most Martins, Taylors, and Gibsons I've ever seen in one store. That's where I found the Martin in my signature. There's also a GC, with a helpful staff, and a nice acoustic room.
If you like Mexican food, make sure to plan an evening meal at El Charro Cafe. Other favorites of ours are Bai Thong (Thai), and Cup Cafe (excellent for breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Thanks for all the helpful replies, you'uns!
I see now why I didn't get any replies initially. I had put it in the wrong section. Sometimes I just ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Thanks for moving my thread, mods! Marcus

Very good point, thank you, Inyo. I had forgotten about valley fever.
I moved there (to Tucson) in the mid-80's, in my twenties, and I got that dreadful bug. I coughed almost constantly, and slept about 20 hours a day for a week or so. I didn't really feel too bad, the constant cough and inability to stay awake for more than a couple of hours at a time were my only symptoms. I was in awesome shape in those days, too. I can't imagine how I would deal with something like that now. Marcus
