I'm not sure anyone would feel my Emerald X20 or the Blackbird L13 I just bought "required" an extensive setup that I get on all my guitars. I just prefer the way they play after having the work done. It takes him close to 4 hours (6 for stainless steel) to get all the frets even for the lowest possible action. Alll my guitars are infinitely easier to play after the setup.

Hi 121,
Alistair would love to spend the necessary time to redesign the X10 as soon as he can, but due to the large custom workload we have here at Emerald, he hasn't been able to do so. Also taking into consideration that we have recently added three more models to our standard range, it will be some time before he gets a chance to do so. However, we can still build the 2015 model of the X10, featuring the traditionally placed sound hole and, in fact, a couple of people have done so very recently. We are always here should you have any further questions. Best Wishes, Sean X10 Woody (QM_VA) (Pu) Art_4.1 as Smart Object-1 by Alistair Hay, on Flickr |

Now that X10 looks like a guitar I could get next to, just can't love the top sound hole...

Sometimes, us old dogs can ... well, you know. I really appreciate the sound I get from the X7 with that off-set sound hole. And now, guitars with a center sound hole are looking kinda old fashioned to me. |

I like the offset hole because I don't drop my pick inside of the guitar anymore and my aging ears are able to hear the guitar better.
Maybe the offset hole designed is intended for old fellas like me ?

I like to think I'm not so set in my ways that I can't appreciate a better way of doing things. Until 5 or 6 years ago, I had never bought a guitar without playing it first. Things change.

I think the 2015, traditional sound hole guitar is desirable. I've had the X10 in both traditional and OS sound hole. The OS is much better for the player but I believe that the traditional orifice is better for the audience (acoustically.) Plugged in, it's a wash. That's an opinion.

You've had an X10 with offset sound hole? Do tell.

Purfle;
My X10-OSN is a custom order, has slot-head tuners, and a 1 7/8" nut width. I'm not sure if there are others like mine. I like the X10 size a lot and have really enjoyed the chance to try different versions. The X10-OSN is featured somewhere on this forum. |

It has been a week now. In an e-mail exchange with Sean, I understand they are doing a shipment, so hopefully the guitar will go out today. While certainly longer than my wait for the X7, I am doing my best being-patient impersonation... 'cuz the Blonde said I have to. In the meantime, I have been drooling over the images of the guitar on the Emerald site. And getting in as much play time with the X7 as I can.
