They aren't handicap compliant? Odd.

Like some others here, my first thought was hire someone to haul the stuff, or see if the venue could provide someone. My impression is that you are a successful gigger, so probably well known, so maybe you could find a youngster who would be into being your apprentice.

This reminds me of the gig we had for awhile on the top deck of a river boat casino. Our bass player had an old early 70s Ampeg eight 10 inch speaker cabinet. The thing was like moving a refrigerator.
If a person plays out allot one of the top priorities are the size and weight of your equipment. Can you set up a day early?

gif I have the simple dolly, two wheeled, collapsible version that I use for taking out the trash and bulky loads. This stairway one looks great. Bungy cord the load and you're good to go.

Can you leave any part of your equipment there, stuff that you are not likely to need between gigs?

Does the HK system come with (or would it fit in) a wheeled bag like the Fishman SA220? With that bag, I could strap my mic stand to the outside using straps integrated for that purpose onto the bag and could wheel it along or carry it on the provided shoulder strap while holding my guitar case (containing a compact Cooperstand guitar stand) in one hand and wearing a small backpack with my mic and cables. One trip for everything. If you adapted to the environment by limiting your self to one guitar (you imply you have more than one instrument) and by doing without the pedalboard, you too might well be able to make it a one-trip operation.

Thanks everyone for the replies, really appreciate them all. At this point, I'm down to the bare minimum of equipment that would allow me to maintain the quality of sound and entertainment which got me hired for this contract altogether. I guess I have to find a way to make it easier to get the gear up to the top level without having to carry it manually.
Von Beerhofen may have made a post of a pulley system in jest? But actually, that's what I'm looking into. There's power in the restaurant so using a winch to lift t up isn't out of the question, just need to determine mounting points and ensure the gear would be safe. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them. At the least, I'll let u guys know how it turns out.

How to get gear cart up stairs? Ideas?
So today I carried up my gear, was actually able to get all my gear up the 42 steps in 2 trips. I can already say that even at 4 total round trips per gig, I won't be able to last the 3 month contract. I've started building something to get the cart up the steps, I'll let you guys know how it turns out (if it turns out). But here's some photos to share why I even decided to take this gig.
My setup. The view behind me when I play. The view in front of me when I play. Thanks again for all the suggestions, hopefully what I build comes to fruition.

That view is a nice trade-off. Have you considered tossing the stairs and building a hoist rig on a dock arm that could be bolted to the beams, hang out over the rail, and pull the gear right up vertically from the ground on a cable? If built well enough it could benefit the bar and perhaps be sold to them.

I thought about that, only problem is that it would have to be mounted higher than the floor level that I'd need my cart lifted to, and that means it would interrupt the the view line. But boy, that would make things so much easier.

That is a good idea, Bob. A boat davit that could swing out over the edge for hoisting purposes should be a relatively easy thing to implement, and not too exotic for an island like Guam. Think of it as a dumbwaiter arrangement which would definitely benefit the venue too.
I have to wonder how the restaurant / bar is getting all their supplies up there now. Someone is carrying up cases of beer and liquor the hard way? And bringing the empties back down too? |
