Solid, figured mahogany, according to Eastman's website:

Google "flame mahogany" and click on images so you can see other examples of what flamed mahogany looks like. This looks like what is often called "crotch mahogany". Not all woods do, but mahogany commonly creates desireable figure (flaming) in the crotch, which is where the trunk knits to a branch.

I think it is the American species of mahogany, plantation grown in Asia. Good stuff.

Beautiful guitar. Love my 12-string Eastman. I'm eyeing the El Reys. But I really like their 00s and parlors.

Thanks, TBman. As for Alvarez...? I've never played one, but I'd like to check them out sometime.

sueinpr... that's great to hear! It seems that Eastman owners are pretty much universally thrilled with their guitars. Can't wait to see and hear this Eastman hog!

Mr. DHart, congrats on your beautiful 00M. I'm on the fence now on whether i should get a E10 00 or your E10 00M. Have played both but if you could be so kind and give me your thoughts about your guitar in a week or two either by pm or the forum. Thanks. Enjoy your guitar. i love the way Eastman does this model.

Tom

Hi Tom! I would be glad to give my impressions in 10 or so days. Will do.

The instrument arrived today and an "instrument" it truly is. Superbly packed for safe shipping (the headstock was very well supported inside the case) by Ted and his people at LA Guitar Sales.

I must say that I am even more pleased than I thought/hoped I would be with this instrument. It is exquisitely well-made and finished and even better, the tone is rich, full-bodied, nicely-balanced, and the volume is considerably larger than I expected.

This is a OO-size instrument and yet has a depth, lively responsiveness, and output level that one would expect from a larger-bodied instrument. The top is very responsive, I'm thinking that the bracing is wonderfully scalloped. And the nitro-cellulose finish is fine and thinly applied. The guitar feels light in weight and is a very comfortable size to wrap ones arms around. In short, I could not be more pleased with it.

Eastman really has a stunning winner with this model. It's exciting just looking at it. But the cream is the full, rich tone and the easy playability. The guitar was set up wonderfully.

Here are some pics... taken in my motor coach, as we are presently traveling.

I don't have my OM28V with me at present, but I can tell already that this Eastman (at 1/3 the price) can comfortably hold its own in company with my OM28V. The two are a great compliment to each other.

I had been considering going with a Martin OOO Mahogany, which would have been a nice guitar, but I honestly think this is a more satisfying guitar than that one would have been.
