Green Trim Line
It is dyed birch veneer, I use the same material undyed for the white lines in my usual style.

I love the green, and this build, and the other builds that I found on your website!
I don't normally like MOP BUT the girl's head on the headstock is awesome. Please continue to post, I'm enjoying the journey. |

Thanks Mr Fox,
always appreciate the extra effort to explore my work. I also usually steer clear of inlay, but I am enjoying this one a lot. Getting the lines of the face looking right was a challenge for sure. Alessi Tuners
We knew we wanted something really special for the tuners on this build, and when I saw the Square One tuners from Alessi I knew we had found it. I love the way the style of these works with my headstock design.
Alessi 1.jpg Alessi 2.jpg Alessi 3.jpg Does anyone have any experience with this tuner? I had to get custom drill bushings to drill for it, and a custom reamer to finish the holes. |

Fill and seal
Here are a couple shots of the body with the first coat of filler/sealer. I use epoxy as a sealer.

bridge details
Here is the bridge I made for this one. First flat wing bridge for a Big Hollow guitar.

Finish continues
JF requested that I tint the neck to match the body, so I made some test boards to make sure i got the color right. I can't get over how empowering it is to do tests first, it takes so much stress out of the equation. It has taken me waaayyy to long to come to this fairly basic realization.
neck test.jpg varnish 4.jpg Also, I toned the top a bit Then sprayed the first varnish coat varnish.jpg varnish2.jpg varnish 3.jpg |

Wow! That looks awesome.
Somewhere in Valhalla the Larson Borthers just gave each other a high five. |

sanded and buffed
so the final coat of varnish is sprayed double thickness, with just enough time between coats for the first one to not be runny when the second goes on. Because the two coats dry together as one, this gives me a film thickness that can take some sanding without risking burn-throughs.
I sand up to 1500 and then buff on the wheel. buffing.jpg Afterward: side view varnish.jpg back side view varnish.jpg Then it is time to unmask the bridge footprint and the fingerboard extension footprint, double check the fit and alignment, and glue the bridge and neck on assembly.jpg |

Assembled and strung
Lately I have been sealing the edge of the bridge footprint by masking off the finish and brushing shellac right against the cut edge of the finish. This really cuts down on the glue seeping in and swelling the grain around the bridge and leaves a much flatter finish around the bridge.
flat bridge.jpg I set the neck a little high to take into account the warping and deflection that will occur over time. You can see the saddle is tallish. strung.jpg The satin finish on the neck is very popular, I can't remember the last time someone requested gloss. This is the bird's beak joint in it's finished glory. It provides quite an accent to the slotted headstock. volute.jpg |

A very beautiful instrument! Your build quality and aesthetic choices are both excellent! I really like the look of the bridge.

Hi, Bevan,
I've been pretty scarce around this forum for about a year now, but now I'm back, and I have to say, it's great to see some of your new work. Your guitars are absolutely awesome, and you are one of the most talented builders I've ever met. Somehow, one of these days, I'm going to own a Big Hollow guitar. Your instruments have a unique and totally world-class sound. Pretty easy on the eyes, too. I'm glad you're doing well! Keep up the great work, my friend!
