Default Installing A Pickguard-3m Adhesive or Glue

I have a line on a real 1930s fire stripe pick guard for my Gibson L-00. The guard has some glue residue on the back. What is the best thing to clean the glue off without damaging the pick guard? Secondly, should the pick guard be attached using glue, or the two sided 3m adhesive. If it is glue, what kind and how best to do it? If it is the 3m adhesive, what is the best technique for applying it to the pick guard to make sure it's the correct size and no air bubbles? Thanks much.

Martin glued their pickguards to the bare wood, the resulting crack in the top became known as the Martin pickguard crack. If your guitar has finish, I would use the tape, if it is bare wood I would put some finish on and use the tape.

Frank Ford's instructions for a clear guard would serve you well.
