After researching the Thomann link above I had some interest in making the purchase from the German site. Appears the Rosewood ban is blocking the sale to the US. Does not tell you why it won't ship here nor can I get response from them.

Took me a couple of days to figure this out.

If you want current information on the CITIES revisions on Rosewood I suggest that you pick up the current issue of Wood & Steel from a Taylor Dealer. There is a two page story about the new rules. Some of them have to do with shipping a guitar with a body or any parts and pieces (like a bridge; fretboard etc.) of rosewood from one country to another their has to be accompanying paperwork. It's not a ban. It is establishing a paperwork trail that the rosewood is legal from the point of origin to the final destination.

Taylor guitars sent to their Amsterdam HQ will leave the USA with the legality authenticated.

As a Taylor owner I get Wood and Steel and mine came yesterday in the mail and I read the article last night.

I noticed in your signature that your last Taylor dates to 2003...

They've been sending you Wood & Steel for 14 years...

I bought five Martins between 2000-2007...

Didn't receive even a single issue of Sounding Board; did get a nice letter inviting me to join the "Martin Owners' Club" - for a fee - and an irreparably damaged guitar when I sent it back for warranty service (former jamming buddy had the same problem, BTW - retopped his, had to replace mine outright)...

Bought my first Taylor in 1996 - been receiving W&S for over 20 years...

Had issues with the bridge assembly on my Custom Solidbody - three times - and each time it was serviced without question, charge, or damage (inherent design flaw, and the reason the Taylor solids were discontinued)...

It's a matter of attitude - and that starts at the top...

Classy guys, Bob and Kurt (and now Andy)...

I began getting Wood & Steel when they were a news print tabloid. Only two of my Taylor guitars were purchased new. First the 855e and later in the year the 814 which was a limited edition in Brazilian. Both those came from a Taylor dealer who was also a neighbor of mine. They are the only new guitars I have purchased. Two were gifts to me. The Yairi-Alvarez DY 99A was a NOS guitar that my wife bought from the dealer who had it in the store basement for about 20 years. The Tradition Jerry Reid was a gift from my makeup artist. It was used when she found it. The balance I found along the way.

I think that the early Wood & Steel's were picked up at the dealers. Later they were sent to customers directly. I don't have any copies of those. I have tried to save the large format color magazines. Just went upstairs and checked the pile. The oldest I have is Summer 2008.

My wife brought the current edition into the kitchen last night and said......

"Here's your guitar porn."

I immediately took it upstairs and placed it on the bed. Last night I poured through the pages and lusted over the photos of beautifully photographed limited edition guitars.

Finally got the official response from Thomann:

"Thank you very much for contacting us.

The Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) held a conference in October 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa where it was decided that all species of rosewood under the genus Dalbergia and three Bubinga species will be protected under CITES Appendix II.

A new regulation takes effect on January 2, 2017 that calls for documentation when shipping instruments internationally that contain any amount of any kind (i.e. fingerboard, back, sides, binding) of rosewood or certain types of Bubinga. As every commercial transaction outside of the EU must be accompanied by a CITES re-export certificate, Thomann is unfortunately only able to supply the required paperwork, and meet the export conditions required for products over 998 €.

Kind regards
XXX XXXX
Export Sales "

Well I bought this cheap guitar and was really looking forward to it. I had the seller ship it to me as he seemed straight up and said he was thinning out his 40 guitar inventory.

I received it today USPS...........and the neck is broken.

He had it packaged very well in a guitar box with lots of bubble wrap. Not that much money but greatly disappointed. He shipped it insured so now I've got to see who files the claim.

....Seller has now offered full refund so sounds like it'll work out.
