Default Amp volume pot problem

Just got an old Ampeg G18 guitar combo amp and noticed that the volume pot cuts in and out. I took it apart and sprayed all the pots with pot cleaner but I can only get sound if I push in on the volume pot. It then sounds great but eventually cuts out again. Do I have to replace the pot, or try spraying it again? This little amp has some mojo for a transistor amp--

Replace the pot. The failure rate and lifetime of pots is surprisingly high and short, respectively.

Another possibility, especially if this is a modern production amp and its pots are mounted to a circuit board via their terminals, is a broken solder joint or terminal tab. If you can solder, you can try to reattach an unattached terminal. If the leg is broken you can replace the whole pot.

Pretty sure the pot is attached to the circuit board, I will inspect and try to solder it back. Is it safe to unplug the amp and just start soldering? Would it help to replace the speaker or is the cheap speaker part of the mojo? It has a 7 1/2 " paper cone.

a tube amp ,, no, gotta be carefull.. a SS amp,, should be safe once unplugged.

re-soldering might help if there's a dodgy solder joint, but at the end of the day, might be time to replace it.

What is the stock speaker? You can always replace the speaker AFTER you've got this issue resolved. That's a five minute task...

Its a solid state 10 watt amp--three pots are all soldered into the circuit board. Maybe remove the outside pots nuts and the circuit board will come out? Super cheapo speaker thats for sure. Got no sound now--
