I think of Modes as a way to COLOR the notes of the scale.

Color, feel, emotion, atmosphere, whatever you want to call it - it's all getting to the same idea.

One of the points of identifying the mode of any song is related to how you would approach soloing.

the overall sound of "c d e f g a b c"
is different than the sound of "e f g a b c d e"
but they are both using the notes of C major scale.
