You should not need a truss rod on the x7os. Being that it is short scale anyway, I kept mine with mediums on it and it was fine.

Necessity..? No. Nice to have for that bit of relief adjustment to suit you.

I posted in another thread that my tech would have liked my x7 to have a truss rod, as the string gauge change we made did have an effect on the neck relief. Since then, I've gone back and forth between gauges (both ways, heavier and lighter). I haven't noticed any significant changes that would necessitate the rod.

Never hurts to have an adjustment available though.

I think in the same earlier post I stated my next Emerald would have a truss rod. Well, that didn't happen either. X20os, no truss rod, and a custom X20os nylon 12 fret slothead on the way, also with no truss rod.

And I went with the truss rod.....the weight is so neglible why not....if it needs that minor adjustment nice to have and better for resale for the person who can't live without it.

Just to mess with you here, I have the Emerald doubeneck which has a pretty thin body and hollow necks. Given the two necks truss rods really are not a option, given the weight. I wonder how much the two hollow necks add to the total resonance of the guitar. Mine would be the extreme case but I bet if I filled in the necks the sound might be altered? Two hollow necks hold a lot of air? Steve

I have one, no truss rod, and I would really like one in it to set it up with. If you get one with a truss and realize you don't need it we can trade!

The need for a Truss rod has been a hot debated issue and one Im taking a little bit of a U turn on.
Do you really need it? Well that depends on how you use the guitar.
The necks are really stable which is good but players do change string gauge and have setup preferences which can be much easier accommodated with a truss rod.
Light strings need more relief due to their wider vibrational amplitude while heavier strings can be used with less relief. Having a truss rod will help dial that in for you.
There is also a tonal issue, The hollow neck gives a more open and resonant sound but depending on playing style this can be a help or a hindrance. Some people have experienced too much fret noise as the fret board is essentially an extension of the soundboard.
All things considered we decided that it would be an overall enhancement to add a truss rod as standard and all x7-OS are now being shipped with truss rods.
We have also made the same switch on the X20-OS.
This year we have been evaluating every detail of our guitars and if we can improve it then we will. There have been a vast array of tiny changes in process and product since the start of the year and all reports so far indicate its been a worth while process.
Every day we aim to build our best guitar tomorrow!

Seems carbon maker migrate to truss rods out of necessity to have one guitar accommodate many types of players. Makes sense. I have Rainsongs with truss rods and I do tend to twick cause I can. My Emerald I am sure would be tweaked if I had them, but I find that small adjustments in relief are less important that I would have originally thought.
