Talking Strat Elec parts question

Howdy again everyone, Well I finally ordered the parts to get my Strat build put together. Wanted to get your opinion on what I picked. Looking for a nice vintage tone...

1) CTS 250K Pots
2) .047uf Sangamo paper in oil cap
3) Switchcraft #11 jack
4) Oak Grigsby 5 way switch
5) Cloth covered wire
6) Fender 57/62 pickup set 5.6k

Any and all opinions are welcome

Thanks
Bill

hard to say until you've put it all together and plugged it in. with the detail work you've done, it should be great!

play music!

All high-quality, vintage-style stuff. Are you planning on shielding? I'm guessing you're going with a vintage-style trem too?

I'm putting together a parts Tele and bought a variety of caps; haven't decided which to go with yet. Those paper in oil caps are huge! I know some say cap type doesn't make a tonal difference, but it's a relatively cheap experiment ...

Shielding made a big difference on my MIJ Strat. It really cut the "hum" down quite a bit. I know there are wonderful copper foils out there for just that purpose. But, I just used aluminum foil and a simple glue stick, making sure that everything over-lapped and leaving tabs for several of the pickguard screws to poke through. I also tied in the grounds as well.

I tested it with my meter and everything checked out just fine. Well worth the time and the little material cost involved.

It's a fine collection of parts. I like to twist the wires to the output jack, and don't forget to run a ground wire to the trem claw which is the traditional place to attach it.

Its funny that you posted this, I was just wondering if you could use aluminum foil as a shielding material. Gonna try it

Thanks

Thanks again RussB ! Great looking wiring job ! I,ll take your advice and twist the wires going to the jack. Sure makes for a clean looking wiring job. Does it do anything for tone ect ?

Thanks again

I guess it could help lower noise and interference...then again that guitar is fully shielded. It does make a cleaner install.

RussB...Nice Work! I've been in production electronics for a long, long time and that's some of the cleanest work I've seen on an instrument.

I notice you have a rather small tone cap (0.015)...do you get much cut with that value? I have 0.047 ad 0.022 in my Strat and there is a big difference in the effect between the two.
