Default Taylor T3 Problem

I picked up my T3 today for the first time in a couple months, plugged it in, and noticed that the bridge pickup is shot. Some sound comes out of it, but it's very quiet and very distorted. The neck pickup works fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

Try running the pickup selector switch back and forth a few times, it may just be dirty/oxidized contacts on it.

I would say it is the selector. pick ups just don`t go bad but selector switches when sitting for a while oxidize a bit and need to be toggled back and forth a few times.

Good ideas. Thanks guys. Didn't work. Then sprayed the switch with D5 cleaner. Same deal. And then just for fun I tested the switch with a continuity checker and the switch works properly in all three positions.

OK, well, it seemed to need to sit overnight. As I mentioned I sprayed with D5 last night, flipped the switch a few times and the bridge pickup was still not working. This morning I drove to the nearest authorized repair shop, about an hour from my house. The guy plugged it in, and it worked. It was a good suggestion. Thanks guys!

Sometimes you have to lightly sand the contact points and/or re-bend the metal tabs on the switch to ensure good contact. This a is very common and I suppose, normal, thing with these blade switches.

The t3 is on my gas list, how do you like it? Is it full hollow or semi?

Default Thanks for the fix - solved the same issue for me as well

Had the same issue. One of the pickups didn't have any sound.

Sprayed contact cleaner on the toggle switch and moved it back and forth several times and it fixed the issue.

Was going to take it into the repair shop so saved me a trip.

Thanks!

Default Taylor T3 - positives

Don't give my Taylor T3 enough credit. Have a strat and Les Paul and the T3 was considered my third guitar.

The humbuckers ( switched the high def pickups with alnico pickups ) provides nice crunch, and lifting up the volume knob switches them to single coil. This is an easy way to play the Beatles "I want you ( she's so heavy )" ( first part single coil, second part humbuckers ).

The peg tuners are smooth as silk when changing strings.

Got it as my first electric after playing acoustic for several years and wanted something that fit, was similar in size, to an acoustic.

It's a solid great sounding guitar.

Probably not a bad idea to replace that switch.

If you're near, or find yourself in the area of, St. Petersburg, Florida, take your T3 in to Seven C Music. The co-owner along with his son Josh, is Dave Osler. Dave was the creator of Taylor's Expression System and Expression System 2 pickup systems, and led the development of Taylor's T3, T5 and solidbody guitars.

If they can't fix your problem, it can't be fixed.

It's a nifty shop. They hold concerts and have a coffee shop right in the showroom.
