Default Anyone else doing video editing?

I'm editing a 2+ hour guitar instructional video. Whew! This is work!

My brother makes his living has a film maker, and he did the camera work for the shoot, and got me set up on Final Cut Express with the 2 camera shots and audio synced. After that, it has been all me.

I've had to create hundreds of graphics, and then place them in the video.

Hours and hours and hours and hours...........

But I know more about it than I used to.

Yeah I've done it. For a living. I do it mostly on the audio post production side.

I've used Final Cut Express for years. People say "hey it is a two minute program, why would it take more than 2 minutes to edit?" Ha.

My hat off to all the accomplished video editors out there.

It is a serious bit of work that is not for the uneducated, ill-informed or folk with a looming deadline.

I'm a videographer/editor for a travel show here in Oklahoma. I'm strictly an Avid guy. Been working on Media Composer for a bit over 20 years. My first editing computer had 27 gigs of storage and that was mind-blowing at the time.

Our house is about 90% Premiere and the rest are Final Cut X, basically those who can't adapt. We were a Final Cut house but after Final Cut and Apple abandoned the professional community we switched over. At one point we were also running some Avid stations. I'm one of the few people you may have heard of who got his DAW start on the Avid Audio Station. When they abandoned us we became early adopters of the Steinberg Nuendo platform.

I use Final Cut Pro X for my editing and assembly. The last project I worked on (a holiday music video for work) has convinced me to upgrade to a new computer- my 4 year old MBP was taking about 10 minutes to render simple keying (green screen) edits. A new one can do it nearly instantaneously.

I'm using an older Mac for my editing and the rendering time is frustrating. You are right, newer macs with the proper memory can make that step instantaneous.

My music partner is a long-time pro video guy and he does all of our videos. As near as I can tell, he's a magician.

My computer and I both have to work hard when I try to do it.

I tried iMovie more than a decade ago, had nothing but trouble. Had some success with Premiere Elements, and then an older version of Adobe Premiere but didn't stick with learning it from lack of time. For simple, utilitarian stuff, Windows Movie Maker got the job done for me, but that's now out of support.

Plenty of respect for those who can do a good job of this.

Yes, but mostly deal with the Audio Post side of things. I have Final Cut so I can make quick edits and also open sessions/do exports, etc.

I'm a much better audio engineer than video editor.

I got my start many moons ago with a pair of Sony VO 5800/5850 3/4" uMatic decks and a RM-440 cuts only edit controller. This nonlinear stuff is a breeze by comparison!
