It's really great to have your input.

Not bad. I'm absorbing all five of the CAGED lessons pretty well and getting fluid playing them. Came in handy jamming with a friend a couple of days ago when we started playing "Spoonful" in E. I was pulling licks and chords from all five boxes and had one of the most rewarding music days ever. What level of proficiency do you expect your students to get to with these before you introduce songs and more advanced material?

I'm also still using the CAGED licks. I'm mixing and matching from the different positions.
I'm also working on Blues across the board and have been looking at the turnarounds.

Default Toby Walker's Lessons: Let's Discuss!

I'm behind as I have been working six days a week. Will see what the weekend brings.

I think that once you complete any of the 'Packs' your proficiency will have improved quite a bit... as you've already started to see! Congrats!!

I already have a few intermediate/advanced lessons up on my web site that would be worth looking at.

Specifically:

'Ain't No Telling'
'Cincinnati Flow Rag'
'The New Shuffle Rag'
'Guitar Chimes'

That's great. As you keep employing those CAGED licks in various keys and positions you'll find you're knowledge of the fingerboard will dramatically increase. At that point I'd suggest making up some of your own licks... or steal a few from any source you can and see how those licks fit into the CAGED system.

That's quite normal. Many of my private students have a tough time juggling work, family, etc, with practice time.

Here's a suggestion: As busy as your week may get see if you can get in about 10 minutes each day. Spend that precious time reviewing some of your recent progress and/or work on those 'troublesome' licks. You'd be surprised at just how efficient a simple thing like this will keep you from moving backwards.

Good advice. I started back up with "Candyman" from the C pack and I really am rusty. Today was better than yesterday. While I am not new to this style of playing, my coordination is really off. So what I am doing is A) slowing it down and using my metronome and B) focusing on the troublesome measures and transitions.

My biggest hurdle right now: the F in measure 13. I usually do a thumb wrap there but at speed it's a challenge to get the thumb placement correct for a clear bass note. Then I struggle to get the ring finger down on the third fret in time, as it's a bit of a stretch on my long scale guitar. But I'll get it, and I can do it if I go really slowly and keep my focus.

That F chord has always given my students a tough time... at first. You've go the key... do it slowly and often.

Not sure what you mean by "go to the key." The problem is one of technique, I believe, and hands that are limited in size and reach....
