fahey's in christ there is no east or west
hi all,
i'm working on this song and was looking for some constructive criticism. hopefully can share in 'show and play' section after few more iterations i still get caught up in a couple parts, but i figure in time, i should be able to play cleanly all the way through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32BnQIQNtdM |

Hi JB,
I've heard that tune many times although I haven't ever played it. Seems to me that you've got it pretty well... I liked it. Is it a little slower than Fahey plays it? I think you've done a good job and you're certainly not far from nailing it. I hope you do post it in the S&T. |

May I ask what material you are learning from? I'd like to learn some John Fahey stuff sooner or later.

Be sure to check out Leo Kottke's version, too.

I'm working on the same material. I'm at the same place as Jberczel, working on ICTinEoW and Look at That Baby. While it's not that hard, getting the right rhythm and touch is the challenge. Wouldn't you agree, Jberczel? There's quite a bit of instructional stuff on and by Fahey. Problem is that he's pretty loaded in the videos. While somewhat amusing (and very sad), it detracts a bit from the instruction. I hope, with some diligent practice, to have the book down pat by the end of the summer.

I've got the "Best of John Fahey, 1959-1977" album and the book that accompanies it. The transcription of In Christ There Is No East or West is a bit different than in more recent materials. Fahey often plays through the slower 1st part twice, then the faster 2nd part twice, then back to the slow part.
Here's my recording of it: https://soundcloud.com/chuck_s/in-ch...et-000/s-KU5yS Phil Heywood has recorded some Fahey tunes; really nice stuff.
