Default A home without a bathtub?

I haven't taken more than 2 baths in 10 years. I doubt that my spouse has taken more than that. We're giving serious consideration to getting rid of the tub and using the extra space for cabinets and counter space.

With two showers, it seems that all we do with the tub is clean out the cat hair and dust continuously.

I know that conventional wisdom is to update your home to what you want, and I probably will. But . . . I'm curious about what other might think about a house without a bathtub.

I never use a tub but feel like it's one of those things you will sorely miss and regret removing if you ever want/need to take a bath or use a big tub to wash something. And it wil significantly lower the value of your home.

i only see two considerations. First, would you rather do something else with that "wasted" space, and, second, how long do you anticipate living in that house. A house with no bathtub might be harder to sell when the time comes. If you're going to be there for long enough - you get to decide what this is - removing the tub might make a lot of sense. Or perhaps there is something of a hybrid option: put a "lid" on the tub now, and put cabinets on top. Better yet, make that lid strong enough to support you and a couple or three acoustic guitars. That way, you can hydrate your guitars every time you shower, and have a private practice "studio" to boot!

Resale value is a consideration.

Also soaking in Epson salt will be impossible with only a shower.

Thanks for the input and the humor. I thought a little of both would likely be offered.

People on both sides of my family live a long time if they take reasonable care of themselves. If they live to be my age (67), most of them continue into their eighties and nineties. Of course that doesn't mean I will, but that's what I have to plan for. I figure I could be living in this house another 15-20 years. So, resale is a consideration but not a driver.

Personally, I liked the studio/humidifier idea. The wife - not so much.

I used to love soaking in the bath but after a knee replacement, a spinal fusion and shoulder surgery I find climbing in and out too cumbersome.
My wife had a hip replacement and feels the same in fact, when looking at homes for sale when we contemplate moving, we wouldn't like a shower-over-bath set up either.
That stepping in and out a bath to take a shower is fine when you're able bodied but scary if you're not.
Nothing wrong at all with a 'shower only' home.

I think you may have the wrong tub... we have a two-person jetted tub; tankless waterheater... you paint the mental image. Ours gets used a lot. The house we had before this had the showers in the tub, and the tub portion didn't get used all that often. Yep, you just need the right tub.

For some, a walk-in bathtub is a good answer. They tend to be expensive, but can be a welcome addition for those with mobility issues who would still like to sit 'n' soak. For instance:

I have a home without a tub... suits me just fine. I can't remember the last bath I took. I'd much rather have the space for storage.

We took out the bath-tub many years ago. We were told that if we sold some would not like it's absence, but a large shower is more practical for us.

Less time, less electricity, less wrinkly bits.

A shower to get clean. A hot bath to chill out.
Two completely separate activities.
