Default Incoming '08 Gibson J-45 VOS TV Limited Edition

I hope I did good with this "spur of the moment" purchase.

The anticipation will be gnawing at me for the next few days. So I thought I'd post a Pre-NGD thread.

So I was scanning some web stores the other night and came across a Used Gibson "J-45 VOS" guitar .. It appeared as a "New Arrival" and at a very reasonable price. Just a few bucks more than a Used J-45 Standard. I was not sure about this VOS model .. But Google searches lead me to a press release from Aug 2008, introducing a Limited Run J-45 with only 167 units to be sold. So I looked up the serial # and found this one was made on August 30, 2008. Sounds interesting...

http://www.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle...e-vintage.aspx

(From the article) --- Gibson is releasing an extremely limited edition of just 167 pieces …The J-45 will be built with a top made from solid Red Spruce, a rare and highly prized tone wood, and will be constructed with hot hide glue, just like back in the day.

According to Mike Voltz, Production Manager of Gibson’s Acoustic Division, all have period-correct details such as binding that is applied over the fret ends, traditional tuners, genuine bone nut and saddle, extra dark vintage-look amber toner, and a traditional orange label. Mahogany graces the back and sides of the J-45. The fingerboards and bridges on all the models are made from solid AAA Madagascar rosewood, and each employs historically accurate construction methods, such as hand-scalloped top bracing, wide X-bracing on the J-45

Carrying accurate touches such as a soft-V neck profile, teardrop tortoise pickguard, four-ply top binding, and banner headstock inlay (declaring “Only A Gibson Is Good Enough”), the J-45 True Vintage is an accurate representation of the instrument that became the standard of hard-gigging bluegrass, folk, and country artists of the 1940s and ’50s.

I am pretty this one I got is part of the limited run!
So I snagged it! ... Shipping from the mid-west and should be here by end of week.

Here are the photos -

This is pretty cool looks like the first run of the TV's. I have a 2011 it's my favorite guitar, I'd like to hear it side by side to some of the smaller builders as Kopp and Fairbanks. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Also I put Retro Monels on it a few weeks ago and like the sound

Thanks!

After further investigation, I'm fairly certain this is 1 of the 167 from the Limited run.

The orange label has the words "True Vintage" on the left part of the black circle that surrounds the inside of the label. On the right side of label it has the words Limited Edition. Which is mostly hidden by the guitar string in the photo .. but I can make out the "L" of the word Limited.

Hope it's a winner!

Now all I can do is wait.... The last words from the sales guy after I purchased it.. "this guitar sounds really sweet and plays super easy, although I think it could use a little heavier strings". I also asked about the person that brought it in....He mentioned, that it was an older gentlemen that traded it towards an electric guitar... He said " I told him he was Crazy"!
