Default That smell??

I just pulled my Ramirez out of it's case today. I noticed the smell, very nice. It is a year 1999 and has always had that smell to look forward to. A woody kind of smell, pleasant but very there.

I have another cedar/rosewood (Taylor) but there has never been a scent in the least. I have never smelled it from any other guitars either.

Got smell?

Cheers

I have a Cervantes crossover classical guitar that has a very nice aroma to it. It's made of EIR and sitka spruce top, nothing special, but for whatever reason, it has a very nice scent.

I also have a steel string hand made Gerald Sheppard, Italian spruce over BRW, and it really has a lovely scent, too. It's 7-8 years old but every time I pull it out of the case that lovely aroma is there.

My Cordoba FCWE has a solid Spanish cypress body that smells amazing. Woody yet sweet, and so strong, it envelopes me every time I pick up the guitar.

It's seriously addicting. I thought my Gibson ES-335 and Les Paul Traditional with their nitro finishes smelled great, especially in their cases, but the scent of this cypress Cordoba blows them away.

I used to leave my Alhambra (cedar over sapele) case open whenever I was home just for the smell. Now I have little ones in the house and that's a dangerous game. But every time I pull that guitar out of its case I'm greeted with that aroma. I've always assumed it was the cedar smell, but someone on here once talked about how great and fragrant sapele is, so I don't know now. All I know is it smells good 8 years after they made it!

Default GREAT SMELL...

I was lucky to own two Ramirez 1a Tradional guitars, the first was a 1978 which I got used, and the other a 1995 which I ordered in 1994. They both had that lovely aroma when I opened the cases, of rosewood and cypress. In 1996 I built a Spanish cypress Flamenco guitar that still has that smell. It's like aroma therapy.

Yup... one of the first things I do every time I pull one of my acoustics (mostly Cordobas) out of their cases is to put my face near the soundhole, and inhale deeply. The cypress of my F10 and GK Pro blanca definitely smells different than my rosewood C12. And I do remember my FCWE smelling wonderful as well. Wonderful aromas.

1976 Alvarez Yairir. No smell anymore, but got tone. The smell of wood is awesome though.

Yes, my Ramirez has a strong and sweet, almost maple syrup-ish aroma. Sometimes it's difficult to focus on playing. My Larrivée is also EIR, but it has a simple clean woody smell to it.

My Cordoba Solista Flamenca smells amazing too. Must be the solid cypress back and sides.

I had an OM-28V that was like that. The rosewood smell was sooo strong.

I started leaving my guitars out on the stands in a humidified room and that smells dont seem to linger any more...

Once, I passed gas into the soundhole of my Martin OM-28 Authentic then shut the lid of the case really quick and locked it. A few hours later I opened it back up and sniffed the soundhole and it smelled like poop and rosewood.

Sometimes that nice strong wood smell can be cigarette smell that has mixed in with the wood smell to create a new "cigarwood" smell that would be pleasing to some people.

If you leave a guitar outside, in a safe place, for about a week the cigarette smell should dissipate.

I have an all-koa ukulele that smells like black pepper.
