John Lennon was murdered 37 years ago. I can still recall the emotions I felt, where I was when I found out. Hard to believe that it was more than half a lifetime ago (for me).

I was running the record store then - very sad day for most of the customers. The local TV station called and wanted comments, I told them I had none.....no words could make up for the way the man who sang of peace and love all his days had been taken from us so foolishly.

"How long shall they kill our prophets while we stand aside and look..."

A sad day in history.

I found out the same way that millions of others did, Howard Cosell on the Monday Night Football broadcast.

That's how I saw it. It was crushing news.

Yes, it was, and still is, unbelievable.

Unfortunately, there are people that we all know personally that would cheer in the streets if the same thing happened today, December 7, **2017**, to other well-known individuals. The "end justifies the means" is a sad, but true commentary on society today. ANd this is coming from an eternal optimist (me). Truth is truth.

I too, was watching the game.

Until that announcement.

Then I went to my music room, turned on the local FM station and mourned with the rest of you.

Stupid.

I remember my Mom who has since passed away and I both grieving together over this sad event. She loved the Beatles and I think as a mother, she understood his life and the loss of his own mother and how deeply it affected him.
I don't think John Lennon ever truly filled the voids in his life no matter how hard he tried. Only in his last years did he seem to have any peace at all.

I was working in the oil fields outside Lamar, Colorado.
Local radio station said Paul was shot and killed.
Wasn't until I got home that night that I found out it was John.

I still play Imagine and Working Class Hero regularly.

Just moved back to Laguna Beach from Santa Clara, CA. I was unpacking and had the TV on for company as I moved boxes out to the trash. I heard his name mentioned and stopped and turned up the volume. Sat there in disbelief as I'm certain others did. One of the baby boomers where were you moments.

What a waste! I have never understood those who take the life of another, except perhaps to defend the innocent. Today, the anniversary of a day that will live in infamy, stands as a vivid reminder of what hate can do, contrasted to what love can do.

I was working in an E. R. when one of the off-duty doctors came by and told me. He knew I was in a band, guess he thought I'd want to know.

Like most people I guess, my reaction was shock that it could be so.

That night a local musician Curt Almsted performed a off-the-cuff tribute to Lennon at what has become a local landmark: First Avenue. He's done it every Dec. 8th since. I've never had the heart to go.

A murder that functioned as an assassination.
