Default Eric Johnson Interview on Acoustic Guitar Masters Tour and New CD

This year's Acoustic Guitar Masters Tour features Eric Johnson, Peppino D'Augustino, and Andy McKee. Last Sunday, they played a great show in my hometown of Ann Arbor, MI, and Eric invited me to come by the next morning to do an interview for my blog:

Lots of great information for guitarists of all styles.

Jason

I am so jealous. I've seen Eric and Peppino on multiple occasions, including once together. When I saw Peppino last spring. After the concert he was talking about this tour. Unfortunately they are not coming to the Pacific NW. California is as close as they are getting.

My wife and I are talking about making the trip down to see the concert. That is so out of character for me. Yes, these guys are that good.

my wife and I saw them at Rochester MN saturday eve. GREAT show and quite possibly some of the best entertainment for the dollar I have spent in a long time. Tickets were only $27 even with all the handling charges.

Here's a video of a new song from that very tour.

Jason I hope you get to see them. I am over in Australia and it is way too far for me! I saw Eric on acoustic guitar (and piano) in Pittsburg years ago when I managed to coordinate a business trip to the US with his concert, and it was a fantastic night.

My son and I drove over to the University of Washington a few years ago to see Eric Johnson do an all-acoustic show. It was very, very nice. He is assuredly one of the legends of the guitar world, and seems to be a nice guy, too.

While all three were great I thought Peppino was the most entertaining to listen to. All three were GREAT mind you -- Andy did stuff that was very unique but could get a bit simular after several songs and Eric did a few songs on Piano instead of guitar( he is very good on the piano too BTW) LIke I said all were great but Peppino really grabbed me. At least for the material they covered during the show.

Great interview! I had the pleasure of meeting Eric several years back after a show and he's a super nice humble man.

Nice. I can relate to his observation that you an work on something alone and work towards perfection but it is rarely quite there when you end up in a performance situation. So often that is the case. You have to, instead, look at the synergy between your playing and everyone elses' and derive your musical satisfaction from that.

Great interview. I have been a fan since A Via Musicom.

Also, nice Bob Marley quote. Where did you get that quote from?

The Bob Marley quote -- "All songs are in the air and they just choose someone to come through" -- was told to me by my friend Donald Kinsey, who was in the Wailers during the Rastaman Vibration sessions and tour and was actually standing next to Bob Marley the night he was shot. Donald went on to play on most of Peter Tosh's albums before returning to the blues.

Here's an interview with him: http://jasobrecht.com/donald-kinsey-...h-albert-king/

Wondering if anyone else has seen the Eric Johnson - Peppino D'Augustino - Andy McKee concerts, and what you though of the performance.

Thanks for sharing!

I didn't realize that Eric was playing PRS acoustics now.
