Default Strings for Gold Tone Octave guitar?

Need a recommendation for strings for a recently bought (used) Gold Tone GM-6+ Looks like extra light guitar strings would work but strings on the instrument have looped ends, not ball end. Thanks! Gene

I carefully and slowly crush the ball ends of my desired string set with small channel lock pliers, doing each side of the ball while avoiding having the wire loop between the jaws.

I just use the string set I would normally use on guitar for the same tension, since the scale length is just about half of a guitar's and an octave above.

Good luck!
