Default What to do....

Received a bonus from work and I am going to do the fool hardy thing and spend it.

I have come across 2 sellers with offerings that have piqued my gas meter:

#1 - has 2 Gibson Zoot Suit SG's for sale

#2 - has a White Falcon and a White Penguin for sale

Neither set is being sold in pairs.

I want them all but 2 is the limit......Which do you choose?

I'm more than a bit prejudiced - I called Brooklyn home for 50 years, my grandparents lived two blocks from the old 60 Broadway plant, and I've owned a sunburst Double Annie since 1964 - but I'd go for the Falcon/Penguin combo and pair it up with this:

- and I'd even pop for a replacement '63 logo and some ivory knobs to complete the period vibe...

I'm not a Gibson fan and therefore no GAS at all for the SG's you mentioned. However the Gretsch White Falcon in particular ..... WOW!

Zoot suits are laminated, dyed birch throughout (so you can't even sand that horrible design off to redo it..!). I'd want to play some before buying to see how they compare to standard all-mahogany SG's. Maybe they're decent guitars maybe a bit of a trainwreck. Laminated necks are usually stronger and stiffer which might make this model a little bit brighter.

No they're not that old.....the old ones I can't even afford to look at let alone touch.

Well, the decision was pretty easy:

Contacted the seller with Gretsch's, let him know that I was interested in purchasing the Penguin.....
Him: "It's gone, some guy with cash showed up so I sold it."
Me: "Okay, I'm interested in the White Falcon"
Him: "Gone, different day, different guy showed up with cash"

Can't blame - Money talke and B.......t walks. My fault for taking to long, but that's OK I still have the Zoot Suits.

Turns out the seller changed his mind on the price - price originally given to me was for the pair.....he changed it to it being the price for each. I wasn't that into them.

Lessons learned.

All is not lost:

I've been a big fan of the double-cut Falcon ever since I got the '63 catalog as a kid - makes a nice visual/tonal contrast to the single-cut Penguin...

I'm not fussed on the Penguin, however the White Falcon is guitar royalty.

There are more Falcons around than Penguins which is why opted for that one. Oh well, just have to keep checking around.
