That's a beautiful 335 clintj! I haven't owned one for a couple of decades. I think it's time to get another one.

Thanks! Actually, only a few. It needed a new nut and a fret dressing when I got it; should be done this week. Love how it plays and sounds, though.

Here's my funny little Gibson.

This Nighthawk Special was the first guitar I bought with my own money. Bought it new in 1994 when I was 16. Traded in a Alverez Strat copy. I didn't know much about guitars then,(still dont, really) but I wanted a Les Paul because I thought they looked cool. I couldn't afford one, but I had enough cabbage for this fella and it looked more like a LP than the strat copy did. So I was happy, little did I know that it's about as far from a LP as a guitar can get.

Best way to describe this thing... Imagine the offspring of a LP and SG mated with a Telecaster. Mahogany body and a set neck, but 25.5 scale and string through body. With the front coil switched off of the slanted humbucker it's a chicken picker's delight and the minibucker at the neck is thick and warm. It's a very versatile guitar in my opinion, but I understand why it wasn't a big hit for Gibson... darn near the only thing "Gibson" about it is the inlay on the headstock. Maybe I should post this in the Fender thread... Ha.

Hoober, I always liked the look of the Nighthawk. Something about that body shape and the slanted bridge HB, just a cool looking guitar. Definitely different than most Gibsons. You've had it 20 years now. Do you play it often?

Yeah, well kind of... It's the only electric I own. Shortly after I got it a friend convinced me that I should play bass instead. Bass playing led me to bluegrass and the upright bass which is what I've focused on for for the past 15 years. Just recently started to get back into guitar. I play my acoustics more than anything these days, but I keep the Nighthawk out and fool around with it quite often. It's currently strung with 12-54 and it spends about 50% of it's play time in an open tuning performing slide duty.

Funny thing... I bought the Nighthawk solely because it kind of looked like a Les Paul. Now that I know a little more about guitars and what I like in one, I have no interest in owning a LP.

That sounds like a nice guitar, Paully.

To post pics: You need to first upload your pics to a hosting site, such as Photobucket (free) and then link them here. Easy to do.

I don't currently own anything Gibson related (unless my PRS Custom 24 counts, in a way) but I used to have a Mark I, two RD Artists, and a Ripper.

There are none I'd like to own these days, except for maybe a late '40s or '50s ES of some sort, or a Super something or other.

There have been lots of NGD Gibson / Epiphone threads here on the Electric sub forum over the past year so I resurrected this thread. Here's my newest Gibson, the '60s Tribute Les Paul with P-90s (as many of you saw in my recent NGD thread).

Post your Gibsons!
