Sounded great Glenn! I need to learn the alt bass picking style some day.

Hi Marty,

Thank you for your thoughts on this.

Yes, the Travis Pick is very helpful for about half of fingerstyle music out there, so it is very useful to learn. I think when Pete Huttlinger made up this song, he was looking for something that sounded Chet Atkin-ish because of the connections of the Nashville music store to Chet. And of course, Chet was a big Travis pick player.

If you go to YouTube, you should be able to search for lessons on playing the Travis pick. Learning this pick could open up a lot of stuff to you.

Best of luck on this!

- Glenn

Nice job Glenn! Not sure how I missed when you first posted. This is a favorite of mine as well, the first Pete H. tune I learned I think. I am a big fan of his and actually got to play it with him at a clinic some years back. He's gone to soon but his music will live on.
Again great job.
John

Thank you John for the generous comments!

You are very fortunate to have had a chance to play with Pete Huttlinger.

I intended to play with Pete, too, but waited too long. I let life get in the way. And it did, because, as you have noted, Pete is no longer with us. Still, I feel like I knew Pete from his instructional DVDs, he was so conversational and personal when he taught. But I very much regret losing the opportunity to know him personally.

Oh yeah, I like that a LOT, Glenn! Excellent. And I also like the bouncy, Travis style. And you know I love that OM1. Very well done.

Really nice again! Someone is on a roll here, haha.

But I always wonder why someone who plays fingerstyle doesn't play a classical guitar?

Nylon strings beg to be plucked and streel strings just want to be strummed, imo :P

Hi Kerbie,

Yes, I know that you once owned an OM1G, so this OM1A has a similar sound that I'm sure you are familiar with. Thank you so much for listening and commenting!

Hi Rick,

Thank you for your thoughts! I suppose I am on a roll, but the weather here is so bad, I can't do much of anything out doors, and so I am using the time to make these recordings. It's rewarding, especially when people provide feedback.

I do have a nylon string guitar, a crossover classical. I used it on this song, which I posted on Show & Tell a while ago: http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...ighlight=Comet

But really, from the time I started playing at age 16, I have been a finger picker on a steel string guitar. To me, that ringing sound is the sound that sounds right to my ears. I like a well played nylon string guitar, but I'm not all that good at making a nylon string guitar really sing.

Thank you again for commenting!

Thanks for posting this, Glenn I have only just heard of Pete, so this is a great introduction to his music. Love the tune and your take on it.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your comments.

Pete Huttlinger did leave us quite a legacy. http://www.petehuttlinger.com/ He put together some wonderful guitar CD albums, and he made a pile of terrific instructional videos for Truefire and Homespun Tapes. I have some of these myself and learned "Darcy's Guitar" from one of Pete's videos. And I think I have 6 or 7 of Pete's audio CDs.

Pete really was a master teacher and those who have known him say that he was a genuinely good guy. It was a sad day when Pete passed away back in January of this year.
