My Guild F-50R (rosewood jumbo) is far louder and more powerful than either its maple F-50 cousin, or my Huss and Dalton mahogany dread. No contest.
Not necessarily better. But definitely louder.

Any guitar that moves a lot of air and has a good cutting tone.
That's why the mentions of Adirondack are in the right direction. Dreads and Jumbos generally are going to sound good outdoors IF they are ones that have a good cut. |

I always play one outside gig every year and use my J45 together with an AER Compact 60 just to fill out the sound

You rich and retired guys with your disposable incomes make me SMH. Remember how it used to be in the old days? "Love The One You're With?"
Which guitar sounds best to you outside? How about the one like you to play all the time? Just don't play it in the rain.

The one plugged into an amp. Seriously, I don't really like the sound of any instrument outside except the bagpipes.
The loudest one you own would be my choice. For me that's the D 28 Authentic.

Also, do bagpipes attract wild geese or rutting moose?

My favorite outdoors guitar is a dread, a good loud one.
Where? I am a very early riser. When I'm travelling and in a hotel, I can't play in the room at 3 or 4am. My favorite place to play early in the morning is at a closed commercial area, mall or industrial park... No one is around (except security guards and they love it), I play facing a big wall and the sound bounces back at me in a big way, sounds great and I can sing at the top of my lungs! FUN!

Bagpipes don't attract anyone or anything, IMHO.
My apologies if I've insulted your Scottish heritage or your love for them. To each, his own. |
