He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he'd never been before. He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again, you might say he found a key for every door.

When the bible is a bottle, and a hardwood floor is home.
When morning comes twice a day or not at all.
If I break in two, will you put me back together.
When this puzzle is figured out will you still be around.

It's hard to pass on Dylan, Guy Clark, or Townes Van Zandt. Or Prine. But those guys will get plenty of love, so I'm going to go with some Jerry Jeff Walker. And I like the original, circa 72 recording of 'Hill Country Rain', over any of his do-overs. The raggedly quality of the original works.

Sometimes I just wake up hummin'
Feelin' like the world is right
Want to jump right up and run outside
And take in the morning light
And feel the music running through me
Makes me want to dance
Clap my hands and dance

Edit: Dagburnit, I forgot about John Hiatt too. I may be back to change this ....

Sometimes she sees her unborn children in his eyes.

It's a town full of losers. We're pullin out of here to win.

While the ships bearing their dreams sail out of sight.

I hate graveyards and old pawn shops, for they always bring me tears. I can't forgive the way they rob me of my childhood souvenirs.

And in the streets the children screamed, lovers cried and the poets dreamed. But not a word was spoken. The church bells all were borken.

So many, so many

How the hell can a person
go to work in the morning
come home in the evening
and have nothing to say

John Prine

Your affront to my virtue was a touch too much
but you left a little twinkle in my eye

Gillian Welch

I got a good Christian raisin'
and a eight grade education
ain't no need in y'all treatin' me this way

"I wish I was in Austin in a chilly parlor bar, drinking mad dog margaritas and not caring where you are."

One recent one are the lyrics to "Try" preformed by Pink:

Where there is desire
There is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame
Someone's bound to get burned
But just because it burns
Doesn't mean you're gonna die
You've gotta get up and try, and try, and try

From Damien Rice, "Cannonball"

From Alphaville, "Forever Young"

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young

and

Praising our leaders we're getting in tune
The music's played by the madman

A few of my favorite radiohead lyrics

"For a minute there, I lost myself"
"We are accidents waiting to happen"
"We ride tonight...ghost horses"
