Pretty much anything played at Toby’s level should present a challenge.

Default Lots of good stuff here, thanks

...including a couple of things I can't see being able to play in this particular lifetime.
I've tried teaching myself NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN 3 times so far, and while I get fairly close I never can get my fingers to do what they need to. Love that song, though. I might get back to it one of these days.
The song that seems to emerge from the pack, at least to me, is that Tommy Emmanuel one--"Angelina." That seems difficult, beautiful and [I'm hoping] doable.

Thanks!

I just took awhile to learn If I Need You by Townes Van Zandt. There are a couple of Youtube videos that I learned from. I'm trying to learn Travis Picking and once I got this one down, it took me by surprise how I could make my guitar do that. I love this little tune and it's fun to play.

Tommy Emmanuel’s “Lewis and Clark” is arguably his “easiest” song to play, and very catchy and fun to play once you get it. It has probably the most “normal” fingerings and chords of any of his songs.

Others that come to mind are “Fragile” by Sting, and “Time in a bottle” by Jim Croce.

I would suggest “The water is wide” by Ed Gerhardt as a fairly challenging but doable piece and one that requires great attention on focus and dynamics.

If you want something more challenging then “song for Stephen” by Antoine Dufour is a good option with lots of technical aspects and a great groove

I have a membership there, very good, eclectic selection of songs. Teaching materials are good, style is calm and effective. He can really pick, too.

I will tell you now that you can play this if you just keep working. I said the same thing you did a year ago. I kept grinding and can now play that song at maybe 75%. That's so far from where I started, it amazes me. I'm still working on it but now I know I can get there. I'll never sound like Tommy Emmanuel but I've come much farther than I ever thought I could. Check out the lessons on youtube in my earlier post and.....keep working.
It's worth it!
ps - never going back is doable too

Dan

I’m not sure what skill level you’re shopping in but search Sungha Jung. I’ve enjoyed learning several of his tunes

An old Davy Graham classic - Anji (variations on the spelling of this name but the basic song is the same). Covered by Bert Jansch, Paul Simon, etc.

3 of the greatest acoustic guitar players to ever play. If it's good enough for them...

Gazza
