Default Do you keep your strap on in the case?

I just bought a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe and one of those Planet Waves Acoustic Straps.

Because the Gibson has the guitar hook built into the preamp jack it is hard to take on and off. So I figured I'd leave it on when I put it in the case.

For now I lay my Fender polishing cloth over the body where the strap sits and the rest of the strap sits on the strings. I haven't moved it around yet so I have no idea if it will stay put or not.

Any thoughts on this? Obviously I'm worried about the finish getting scratched and any effect either the cloth or strap has on the nitro finish.

It's just a thought for now and wondered what you all do with your strap on a guitar with a soundhole jack?

Probably better to take the strap off. The materials in the strap may react to the finnish of the guitar causing the finnish to mar or discolor. Remove the strap and put it in the little box in the case.

I tried this a few times afters seeing some musicians do it...namely Doyle Dykes....but I didn't keep it up. I just take it off and put it in the gear compartment or the cutaway space....since it was soft suede leather.

I roll my strap up and place it in the cutaway section as well.

My main strap is a wide, less flexible, padded leather deal - very comfortable but doesn't store well. I never put it in a guitar case. Normally, it's near my amp. When I'm taking my guitar somewhere, I carry a bag with a folding stand, TU-2 tuner, cables, sometimes my AG-Stomp and extension chords, etc. That strap travels in the bag. (Actually, right now my "bag" is a zippered nylon case designed for bongos - just the right size!)

Might want to get one of the soft suede Taylor straps one day, but the one I have is excellent, so the minor inconvenience of the bag of stuff is no problem at all.

My strap in on my main guitar all the time. It goes right into the case or the padded bag with it. And I have strap locks, that are very easy handle. I never have to look for my strap this way.
This guitar is "on the road" with me two or three times a week.

At home I keep the strap next to the guitar stand...it's only on my guitar when I'm playing it. When I'm out and about, the strap is either in the case compartment or in a tote bag I carry. I never try to put the guitar in the case with the strap on...it just doesn't fit right.

The only time I've been able to keep the strap on the guitar in the case was my first guitar...a Gibson LGO. But the strap was the old headstock kind (the only kind we had then), was thin with a shoulder pad, and the case was chipboard. But that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Smile No, on advise from James Goodall

No strap on my guitars in their cases.

When picking up a guitar from James Goodall, he advised not the leave a strap on (as previousely mentioned) as it may react with the strap, not to mention it does not fit in the case well.

Straps do not fit on the guitar in their calton cases.
