Default Tim or Timmy

The Tim pedal by Paul Cochrane is fantastic, or get the Timmy if money is an issue. Covers everything from clean boost to slight dirt to moderate gain. If you want higher gain, then look at the Fulltone OCD.

I use a Keeley modified Tubescreamer and a Keeley compressor. I actually used to use two Tubesceamers, but I am moving away from heavy distortion. I just use the tubescreamer and the compressor to dial in a little warmth to help combat the inherent brightness of my Telecasters.

I know it's cheap, but when I'm not using the built in effects on my amps, I usually go to my Digitech Bad Monkey pedal. It sounds pretty good to my ears.

I do something similar--Cusack Screamer set to semi-clean boost coupled with my Keeley four-knob compressor.

I find that Ross-style compressors like the Keeley sort of work as a gain pedal.

I used to use two tubescreamers, one marked "MID" and one marked "CRUNCH."

I took the "CRUNCH" pedal out, and now I use the compressor for warmth and gain when playing rhythm, and I engage the tubescreamer for solos.

Either one or both do wonderful things with the clean channel of my Delta Blues 115.
Ditto. I agree with this.

I much prefer the sound of an overdriven amp but the Bad Monkey has a really nice OD tube screamer sound. It also has the advantage of having low and high controls versus the usual single tone knob to give you more sound tweaking ability. At under $50 it's a steal.

I have a drawer full of overdrive pedals. My board now has two and I am done looking further (LOL). I have the Timmy first in line; great for mild to mid drive. It doesn't significantly alter the tonal footprint of my guitar but just adds some gentle distortion and sustain. Very natural. The second overdrive pedal is the zendrive. It adds very smooth sounding/compressed overdrive. Think Santana or Robin Ford (Robin used to use one). Can run them both at the same time but not sure there is that much difference cascading them. Does make it simple though to go from mild overdrive rhythm to smooth lead back to rhythm just by stepping on one pedal.

A TS-9 is great but lately I've been using a MXR Bad-*** Modified Overdrive with my Strat.. It sounds good..
