Reflecting on 2017...
As the year winds-down, for me (and my wife as well), it’s been both up there with the worst and one of the best. In March, my Mom passed away at 81 y/o, and it has since been a real challenge with my 86 y/o father (nothing to do with the loss of his wife, or mental issues) and unfortunately, it will continue to be for the rest of his life.
Thankfully, the last couple of months have helped bring back the light to our lives in that our eldest of two sons, d-i-l and granddaughter bought and moved into a new (existing) home, still not far from us. Plus, we recently found out that they will be having another child, a second granddaughter, next March. Our youngest is son and d-i-l are in the process of having a brand new custom home built just 7 min. from us. They are acting as co-general contractor and my wife and I are helping them a lot. Into lots of painting and laying of hardwood floors now and over the coming weeks until they hopefully can move in before Christmas. We will all be together on Christmas Day for a feast and enjoyment of each other’s Company. I’m soooo glad that the good followed the bad which should continue into 2018. I hope your 2017 has been a good one, and the best for 2018!

2017 has been a challenge. My MIL has dementia and is in a local nursing home. My wife is responsible for her and it weighs on her. My 86 year old mother has failing memory, no math skills, and less insight into her limitations. She insists on living alone. I am the only one of three children to stand by her despite being the least favorite of hers when she was still fully capable.
But my adult children are well. My two granddaughters are doing great. I am in good health and my wife's ailments are under some control. I am in pretty good health considering how badly I treated this body 40 years ago. I am grateful for every day the fates allow. Carpe diem!

95? Wow. If you inherited her genes I guess that means we can expect to see you here at the AGF for a few more decades

Aside from a week of havoc created by an uninvited visit from Irma it's been a fine year for me and my family.

Other than some knee issues that kept me off the golf course May-Aug it's been a pretty good year.
Wintered on the Texas coast Jan-Feb. Took the grandkids to the beach in July. Went to Maine, then Martha's Vineyard in Aug. Kids and Grandkids are healthy and content. No complaints. |

2017 was pretty busy.
Most importantly, I’ve been in love with a lovely lady that plays ukulele. We have a wonderful time together. We play together, and are now taking singing lessons. FWIW I have a 3-1/2 octave vocal range. Work kinda sucks. I’m paid the same but they have shuffled stuff around. I used to be the Network Manager/Systems Manager. I’m now a grunt. My old duties went to a national service line, which I did not apply to at the time, due to the fact that my late wife had cancer and I did not want to risk getting an idiot for a boss at a time when I was needed for more important things in my life. Anyway, I retire May 24 2018 so it means nothing to me now. The stock market has been good to my retirement funds. I’m ready. I am now involved as a trustee in the Columbus Folk Music Society. Also, I function as the logistics director at our monthly coffee houses and at our annual folk festival. That means that at the coffee houses I set up chairs. At the folk festival, I drive performers to/from their vehicles and the stage in a golf cart. I got to hang out with John Gorka last year. And I am the Commodore of our Shrine Mariners Club. So I reiterate, I have been busy.

meh... my year was just ok. Yes, there were a few ups and a few downs but nothing extreme either way for me. I simply existed for the past 12 months.

As a 63 year old single female, my three dogs and two parrots are my life. I lost my oldest Yorkie, Dixie Belle, in July from a really bad illness. My heart was broken and my house lost it's heartbeat for awhile. Now I have two new little Coton de Tulear sisters who have turned the household upside down for me and the remaining fur/feather babies. Looking forward to 2018 and another year closer to my retirement in 2020. I'm trying to look forward to retiring at the beach.
I wish everyone here a happy holiday!!

Other than revisiting the stupidity of my youth and sliding off the garage roof while shoveling snow in Feb. and really aggravating my chronic lower back problems. Then compounding that stupidity with while rehabbing my back, in May, flipping my mountain bike and injuring the nerves in my already bad shoulder
Other than those self inflicted setbacks the year has actually been pretty good .

More stressful than many others.
Son in law got deployed to the Middle East on January 10 and didn’t return until mid July. That was tough, worrying about him, helping our daughter with an infant and a toddler wore us out. Started a brand new job in January. Stress Had 4 sinus infections throughout the year. One ear infection. Infection in a molar. Root canal. One respiratory infection. Pulled calf muscle. Tennis injury. Eyesight issue with eyes not focusing in tandem with each other. A prism lense corrected it. Hemorrhoid And now left foot in a boot for 6 weeks, pulled tendon...tennis injury. On the good side.....son in law got back safely. Had a great family vacation in November in Florida. Good riddance 2017!!!!! Health and happiness for all in 2018!
