Default Sloan Book Guitar Making Forms and Clamps

As happens to many of us when we visit our parents, I was escorted to the basement and asked if I'd want anything - things they want out of their basement and into someone else's! One of the things uncovered brought back old memories of my dad (now in a home) and I planning to make a guitar using the Sloan book that started so many guitar makers on their journey. We did buy some wood (long gone) but the forms for bending the sides and the beginnings of the parts for the clamps were made and those were in the basement. Does anyone even make guitars using Sloan's method anymore? I doubt if I'd ever even try but in some ways I'd hate to just toss them.

Rooting around further, this time in the attic, I discovered a box of wood for the guitar that was purchased in 1973. There are two peices of spruce for the top and tow of mahogany for the neck. It looks like we never got around to getting wood for the sides. I guess it's all aged wood now.

If you're getting into building then I'd say go ahead and use your book. Nothing wrong with it.

I bought Irving Sloan's book when it first came out and made a few guitars based on it. I still have the book and an unused set of Brazilian I bought at the time.

The only thing with the sloan book is, as I recall. He has an odd assembly method. He puts the body sides and neck together then moves onto the top and back (shouldn't that be top and bottom, or front and back?). No tragedy there, but for that kind of guitar I prefer starting with the neck, and soundboard. That is about the only part that is oddball. Also I think he boils the sides, which I wouldn't do. I'm thinking of his Classical book. I remember when I got into building and discovered I wouldn't actually be building the iconic shape on the cover of his book, that I felt a mild disappointment.
