Default short scale electric with wide nut?

i'm looking for a 6 string electric guitar with a light body and a wide nut, at least 1 3/4" although up to 1 7/8 would be fine. i actually want to use it as a very quiet guitar for practicing acoustic to play when neighbors are asleep.

searches on google are proving fruitless as i keep turning up stuff about either short scale guitars (not electric, no wide nut models) or 1 3/4" nuts for sale.

any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Patti,

I was recently at the Warmoth website and they offer short scale neck conversion for strat/tele style guitar. Not sure on the nut width but maybe they can accommodate to your preference. Get body from Guitar Fetish or Rondo music and build it all to your liking.
I am not aware something like that is on the market at the moment, at least not a mass produced instrument.
I am considering a custom 1 3/4" all maple neck for my Tele later this year, still weighing my options, neck will cost about what I paid for the guitar.

Good luck!

Patticake,

Have you thought of a 12 string electric and only put on 6 of the strings..

Eg

Or if you want a more serious guitar, a used Soloway Loon.

Gotta give a nod to the guys over at USACG .
In fact , they are doing a cherry/ebony neck for me right now .
Tele heel and Strat headstock , 1 11/16" nut .
The only , and I stress only , thing that I do not like about Warmoth is the way that they burn their logo into the base of the heel .
I want the maximum amount of material possible making wood to wood contact with a bolt on style . Aside of this , I have no issues with them .

Not sure what your budget range is, but the Carvin AC375 might be worth a look. I played one while on a business trip to San Diego and liked it. Unfortunately didn't have the coin to bring it home, so it was a bit of a limited test drive...

Anyway, it meets most of your criteria, being a thin-bodied electric with a 1.75 inch nut. It is not however short-scale so that might be a deal breaker for you.

Anyway, if interested, you can check it out here:

http://www.carvinguitars.com/catalog/guitars/ac375

And for the disclaimer, no I don't work there, nor know anyone who works there. I do own some of their gear though.

Hope that helps,
gC

Eastman T184MX. Narrow (14" wide) semi-hollow, 1 3/4" nut, 25" scale.

Taylor T-5... 4#'s, fairly wide nut and flattish fretboard, perfect intonation all the up the fret board... although a quiet unplugged voice, very balanced, tone-wise...

I have one with a maple top that I love, but for the best acoustic sound, I think a spruce top is the way to go (also the least expensive option!). Not wild about the acoustic tone when plugged in, but I love the electronics; gets a lot of different electric guitar tones.

I've seen them used for anywhere from $1,000-$1800...

another thing to consider is the string spacing at the saddle.

i don't know why an electric guitar with wider spacing at the nut and saddle is so hard to find. i use to really want one to play fingerstyle on the electric but never had much luck finding one.

Yep, it is the standard Strat 25.5" But a "custom" option is also mentioned. I wonder how far they will go.

I think some Fenders have been made with 24" scales. Jaguar? Not sure what the neck dimensions are on them otherwise.

Gibson-style necks are usually a little shorter (24.75"?), wider, and flatter than most Fenders.
