How do you react when a seller wants you to pay PayPal fees?

using a 3% fee option a - 100 item will net the seller 97. if the seller needs to net $100 they need to price the item accordingly. option b - 100 + the fee in advance will net the seller 99.91 The seller 'makes out' dollar wise but at the possible cost to his reputation. The buyer pays a surcharge for no good reason that I can think of (right now). At the end of it all, for each of us it is a simple question of our willingness to play by the rules or risk the consequences of ignoring the vendor's terms and conditions.

Nope. I figure the fees into the price when I sell so on that we agree. The final out of pocket price to the buyer is the same whether I add the fee into the price or simply say buyer pays fees. So as you said, you have agreed to pay the fees and then report the seller to get them in trouble with Paypal. Seems vindictive, especially if you are dealing with other members of the AGF.

Perspectives and feelings here on AGF never fail to amuse...
The price of everything you purchase using a credit or debit card already has a several percent markup built in. I'm rather fond of when the merchant will extend a several % discount to me if I pay using a method that doesn't incur a fee - but this is pretty rare. We've basically created 4 pages of semantics here. I'll bet nobody disagrees with the concept of a merchant specifying a minimum number of dollars they need to have in their pocket in exchange for selling something... What mental gymnastics anybody has to go through to make themselves feel happy about forking over the required number of dollars to purchase something is unilaterally up to them. I tell them, sure, no problem, that was asking price minus 10 % and I cover pp fees.

You are not wrong. Paypal fees are the sellers fees for using the service and getting his money instantly.
Any other use, asking the buyer to pay fees or to use the Gift option is a breach of the PP contact and IMO, dishonest. |

If you don’t like the terms, negotiate. :-).

4 pages.
This is exactly why I don’t have a PayPal account. I’ve heard of too many PayPal nightmares. No bs fees and stuff to argue over. I’ll buy your guitar for $ amount. Don’t want my bank check? Fine, you lost a cash deal and I’ll move on. It’s just a guitar.

While I can understand your desire to avoid the fees, I don’t see PayPal as anything more than an electronic transfer vehicle. And, they do provide some level of protection. When dealing with a buyer (stranger) on the Internet, verifying that the funds are legitimate is a valuable feature of the service. That said, every system has loop holes for crooks to exploit.

Everything is negotiable As a seller, I make the offer simple, one price plus shipping.
