Cool Yamaha Question

Just picked up a Yamaha FG 325 on eBay for next to nothing, and am pleasantly surprised with how it sounds and plays. Very light weight- not overbuilt. Decent tone and much louder than I expected. Action is not great.

I'm assuming it has a laminate top, back, and sides? I'm guessing it is from the 80's, or maybe even the 70's?

Any info. anyone can share would be most appreciated!

I've seen one advertised as '1977' build, and others into the early 80s. Spec on these things is notoriously hard to track down, but you should assume laminate build; an 'S' suffix in the model designation is usually a pointer to a solid top (eg FG750S). Careful inspection of the edge of the soundhole may reveal laminations. If grain lines go all the way through, top to bottom, it'll be solid.

I have a FG 335II from '81, it has laminated back and sides, wood top. Bought it new, great guitar and durable, mine has been set excellent for me, action is a little low for some. Have nothing bad to say about the guitar, it's got a lot of play wear, few dings, great to play.

Cool! I guess that's what people mean when they say their guitar is like an old friend!

The FG-325 is a classic Folk size, made 1977 to 1978, list price was $125 (probably sold for $100), laminated spruce top, laminated agathis back & sides, nato neck, indian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

Think it needs a neck reset? Or will adjusting the saddle, truss and nut suffice?
