Smile Hamblin

This is a great deal in waiting for some lucky buyer.

Kent makes an impeccable guitar with a fantastic sound. I am so happy with the purchase of my Hamblin guitar off AGF. I had not heard a Hamblin before, but bought it blindly because of its stunning looks, and because Kent is good friends with Mike Baranik, a builder I greatly respect. I called Mike before making the purchase and he highly recommended Kent's guitars.

My Hamblin has a modern sound with great overtones but it is also extremely balanced (between bass, mids and highs). The playability is also among the best I've experienced. It has great response, clarity and dynamics too. I like the sound of my Hamblin so much that I chose it to play at my grandmother's funeral.

Good luck with your sale.

I believe this guitar had been built for and owned by a forum member, Jim Tozier. He was one of the first people I recall having bought a Hamblin

Yes... I can confirm that this guitar was built for me by Kent Hamblin back in 2005. That's my signature (not just initials) on the back of the headstock.

It's one of two Kent built for me--the other was a cedar/rosewood twin to this one. Both were fantastic guitars, but this one was my favorite because of the tone and the beautiful flamed (or "fiddleback") Honduran Mahogany.

One of the cool things about this Hamblin is the slightly longer scale length (25.7"), which Kent added specifically because I played in so many dropped tunings (DADGAD, CGDGAD, CGCGCD, etc.). This is a great fingerstyle guitar, particularly if you like lowered tunings as well.

Seeing this guitar again brings back some fond memories, and I hope it ends up finding a good home with someone who'll give it the love it deserves.

I sold both of the Hamblins a while back when I was shrinking the collection--not too long before I took a little break from music. I'm just now getting back to playing after a hiatus that's lasted almost 8 years now. Hard as it might be for anyone who knew me back then to believe, I don't even own a guitar right now.

I'd bring it back home, but I fear that it'll be quite a while before I can justify another guitar of this caliber. I need to build my chops back up (and commit to playing consistently--I've had a couple of other false starts during my hiatus), and without any steady income from music these days, I need to set my sights on a much more modest guitar.

But whoever ends up with this guitar is sure to be very happy with it! I never actually used it on any of my recordings, but if the new owner contacts me after purchase, I'll be glad to send a CD or two your way to compliment the "signature" guitar.

..... That's where you're wrong, Jim. I've heard your playing, & know better. Besides, as you know, a high caliber guitar inspires high caliber playing!

Very kind, but you haven't heard me play recently.

Trust me, the Seagulls and Guilds I'm looking at are more than appropriate for where I am right now (both in terms of my chops and my commitment level to playing regularly).

Thanks for the kind words Jim. I have some of your music and your attachment to this guitar was a big factor in my buying it. On it's own it is a great guitar. Jim, you have a PM.

Default Hamblin

I have a Hamblin GC, Kent Hamblin is known for his very talented, meticulous, excellent work, his guitars are sought after because Kent is a very talented builder who never compromises on his builds.

I decided to have and keep only 2 guitars, the 2 guitars are a Beneteau and a Hamblin, this one being offered is a real gem of an instrument from a well known AGF member.

Here's a picture of the Hamblin in action from the Monroestock V gathering in North Carolina back in 2005. Easy to tell which song I was playing ("Trinity") due to the 3 capos.

And another one from Healdsburg the same year--once again playing "Trinity." This one shows off the flame on the side pretty nicely.

I think the new owner needs to learn "Trinity." I can probably find the tab for it laying around somewhere...
