Seamus I would love to here your blues tune. Are you playing your 00-15? Is it mostly guitar or did you add other instruments? I love to play the blues!

I'm still playing with it...with some of the great songs posted, I'm reluctant.

I am playing it in E, with the 00-15, and E harmonica.

I am copying what Happy Traum did on his DVD on how to play the blues. "New Stranger Blues" is a very easy song to play lead and harmonica to.

Perhaps in a few weeks I will post, but I'd like to pick up a bass first.

I love acoustic blues (or 'country blues') Thanks!

I am thinking of giving the tascam condenser mic a try with it:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...ser-microphone

Thankfully, little risk involved!

Anyone else use external mics with the 004 or 008?

If time allows this weekend, I may try to post "New Stranger Blues". It is an easy song to learn and I am improvising lead to it and just learning.

The "jam" DVDs from Homespun have been a great help.

Hi Seamus,

I've had no idea or even heard of this Tascam condenser mic, but it seems so inexpensive to me (as you mentioned "little risk involved"). And now I'm thinking about giving it a try too (I've read one of the reviewers that said this mic is good for vocal but not for instrument! But the other reviewers didn't say that!)

And yes, I've used external mics with my 02 (and had some experiments with 008 too). I'm using MXL 4000 for vocal (and harmornica) and Behringer C-2 (comes in a pair) for guitars. I believe it's much better to use external mics, the main reason among other things is you can really play around with setting them up at the locations and distance and what not that you want instead of having to compromise with the internal mics at the machine itself.

Please let us know about your "Comment" if/when you decide to get that Tascam mic and use it yourself.

Seamus,

I use that very mic on my Boss MicroBR to record band rehearsals then transfer the files to PC for editing. I've even just set it on a table in the middle of an acoustic jam session.

Works good for my purposes. Never used it as a multitracking mic though.

Thanks, I will give it a try and report back next week. I read that it goes well for the vocals.

I tried a standard dynamic mic and found the volume to be very low, so this might work out better.

Question Question for DP 004 (or 008) Owners

I have a question for the DP 004 owners:

Using an AC adaptor, do rechargable batteries work?

This would work out well for me, as even though the unit limits things for the sake of batteries, I am going through them rapidly.

My comfy living room recording spot is where I practice, play and record, is not near an outlet, so if rechargable batteries work, I could plug it in when not in use and have the batteries ready to go while recording practicing, etc.

thanks!

That is a good question and I would wonder the same. I just got my DP-004 about a week ago and my AC adaptor arrived today. That would be a good question to ask Tascam customer support.

I just ordered the AC adapter and have rechargeable batteries so I should be able to let you know within the week when it arrives.

Rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries usually provide a slightly lower voltage than standard Duracells etc.

I believe they're only rated at 1.2v as opposed to 1.5v. Not sure how much difference, if any, it will make.

Agreed.

My plan is this:

Use rechargeable batteries and plug it in to recharge when not in use, but keep 4 fresh Duracells in the Tascam case (from ebay) just in case I find myself somewhere that does not have a plug (or outdoors).

Another issue: I am using the Tascam condenser mic which under some settings sounds low, (I am still experimenting), but for voice, it sounds very clear.

I'll update on the battery issue and more about the Tascam condenser mic as I go along. UPS to arrive today with bass guitar, so this weekend should be fun.

I fooled around with this, and tried harmonica but Clancy, the Bullmastiff heard it and added his voice...it is not mixed, just the 4 tracks on MP3 from the DP -004

/Users/PeterHyatt/Desktop/Rehearsal NSB.MP3

I have to learn how to put up MP3...sorry!

I can't access this mp3 as it is a file path to your computer desktop.

You'll need to use a file sharing site. I use Dropbox. It's free and, if you let me refer you, I'll pickup another 500Mb storage space.

If you want to PM me with your addy, I'll send the referral.
