Cedar/Spruce Walden/Cort comparison
Hi guys! first post so here it goes
I was going to get myself a new guitar so I had a couple of questions in mind I am getting very good deals on two used guitars one is a Cort Earth Grand Spruce Top for about 230 dollars and the others is a Walden CG570CE, a cedar top, for about 280 dollars in us currency. I haven't been able to try both of them but I am going to before buying. I was just wondering, having read the differences between a spruce and cedar top here, which one is more suitable for bottleneck slide playing a la Derek Trucks, Duane Allman stuff. I am not much of a strummer. I mostly play blues, country jazz stuff. Which would be better for my style? Also, the cort has a Fishman Classic 4T system and the walden has a B-Band T35. Which is better? And how does the B-Band compare to a Fishman Presys+ because Ive heard some Walden CG570CE's also. |

Wish I could help you but I've yet to hold any Cort or Walden! I would like to check them out.

Cedar is warmer and generally speaking, more responsive to a light touch.
Spruce is brighter, which would lend itself to slide work IMO. I'm not familiar with that B-band system and the Fishman is run 'o the mill kinda stuff. Functional but nothing special. I have mostly been underwhelmed by Walden's and have almost always been surprised by the sound and build quality of the Corts. The Cort is wildly overpriced. It is less brand new. Less than $220 on Amazon. Okay, I take it back - this one doesn't have a pickup. Still too high in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/Cort-EARTH-GRA.../dp/B008CVDQ50 You may want to look at some small bodied guitars for blues slide. They seem to project the mids and trebles very effectively with bottleneck stuff and can often be found REAL cheap on CL. Try 'em both and see.

I own cedar/rosewood Walden that I love but I probably wouldn't use it for the styles that you mentioned. The Cort is probably a better candidate in your case.
