Default 12 fret neck, 00 size, Carbon fiber Truss rod only (no Adjustable rod)

What is the luthier's opinion of small, 00 size gutiars, 12 fret necks, made with Carbon Fiber reinforcing rods only (no adjustable rod).

I'm looking at such a guitar. A comment I hear is that adjustable truss rods are not necessariy critical for 12 fret necks.

Comments?

A truss rod is never necessary until it is. I've seen many 12 fret necks that needed relief adjustment on many different brands.

I would dispute any claim that a truss rod is not a critical item.

The only exception in my experience are Martin 12 frets from the era of the long shank T-bar and even on those instruments I'd prefer an adjustable rod.

There is always a risk involved with forgoing the truss rod but I believe there is a sound and a weight distribution you can get that you cannot get with the truss rod in place. Why are you thinking about going without one?

There is a builder (he has been repairing and building for over 30 years) who has a pre-war styled 00-18 type model, 12 fret, short scale, where he does not use a truss rod (he does build a 14 fret where he employs a truss rod). well received by the few owners, and I"m tempted...

He makes a very light instrument, thinned tops, but a fairly stout neck (not baseball thick, but not thin... deep C.

Builder is David Newton
