LR Baggs M80 in a Rainsong WS1000
Has anyone replaced the Fishman Prefix that comes with the Rainsong with the LR Baggs unit. I find the Fishman sounds pretty good but is prone to feedback (especially in loud live settings). I use the M80 in my Gibson J45 and love it but wondering what the combo (carbon fibre - M80) would sound like. Anyone tried anything similar.

Move the M80 over and try it! I would be surprised that it will be more feedback resistant than the Fishman with its notch filter and EQ. RainSongs are lively guitars and sometimes a soundhole cover is the only solution.

The M80 might pickup up more top noise, a M1A might be a better fit.

Does it have a barndoor preamp? That seems like it might be a sticker should you remove the pickup. Baggs makes a barndoor preamp for their Element pickup (below) that might be more feedback resistant. However, I'm not sure if the Element is known for its feedback resistance. It's a little more natural than the standard UST, but the Baggs LB6 is the one known for feedback resistance. Doyle Dykes had a LB6 installed in his custom Guilds with the Element preamp, which was a cool rig. The Anthem also has a barndoor preamp available that allows you to control the blend of the Mic & Element UST.

Done
I pulled the trigger and installed the M80. I left the barn door in place (unhooked)until I come up with a solution to fill the hole. I am very pleased with the M80, the sound is excellent and, while I may miss the onboard EQ, the M80 is absolutely feedback proof. After a little dialing in, I feel the sound is better than the Prefix. (YMMV)

Maybe not the best comparison, but my workhorse guitar for years was a '98 Lowden LSEII with a Fishman Prefix. Well it finally went ka'put maybe from the salt air & coastal environment I play in. Anyway I replaced it with an M1A and loved it much better. I re-fretted guitar and set 'er up and gave 'er to my son as a Christmas gift a few years back, excellent guitar & pickup!
I bought a D18 and put the M80 in 'er, love it too, has a hint of an archtop flava to it I like. Glad the M80 is workin' for ya! eric

I used a M80 in my McElroy A30 after I took the Sunrise out (I am a Richard Thomson fan) - the Sunrise is too heavy and I was afraid to travel with it in place. The M80 is 95% of the Sunrise but safe to leave installed.
Played out last night and, once again, the M80 was flawless. Very pleased.

How do you install the M80 into the Rainsong. The top is so thin on my guitar that the clamps do not screw up the entire way..
