Default suggested songs in Open G

I went chasing this tuning to learn Zep's "That's the way" and to experiment with a little slide but don't know any other tunes to play. Any suggestions for good songs in Open G?

Thanks.

Since you are into Zep (me too!):
-Dancing Days
-In My Time of Dying (actually in open A, 1 step up from open G, I use capo at the 2nd fret)
both tunes use a slide

Rolling Stones:
-Honky Tonk Woman
-Brown Sugar

George Thorogood:
-Bad to the Bone

Not trying to 'hop' on Chip, but Little Martha is in open E...

low to high E B E G# B E...

note that if you wanted to (to have lower tension) you could tune all those strings down a whole step to

D A D F# A D and would call that open W

W?....Daddy?

short posts...

as was mentioned...a lot of the classic Stones songs are open G....

gimme a banana...

I'm a monkey! (if I recall correctly...don't have a guitar right here...)

cool album is the Black Crowes' Shake Your Money Maker...

open G:

Twice as Hard
Jealous Again
Seeing Things
Hard to Handle (not the lead, though)

She talks to Angels is in open E...

those are the 'popular' ones....

another thought....

Mark Hanson has some books on alternate tunings that you might be interested in....(I don't have them...does anybody)

you can read the descriptions at his site accentonmusic.com

one of the books lists out the tunings used on many, many, many songs from a variety of styles (I believe).....also includes harp style passages, too, for the various tunings ( I believe), common chords in the more common tunings, too?

not sure..

As usual, some great suggestions from the Forum. Thanks for the ideas. I'm starting to notice that where you find slide, you find rythym tuned to open G quite often. Now I have more stuff to work on. Thanks again.

I guess this is dating me a bit, but my all-time favorite in Open G is "Mole's Moan", a la Tom Rush. Really quite simple to play, and arguably the nicest tune for the least effort in all guitardom. Lots of positions up the neck that make you look like you know what you're doing even when (like me) you don't!

Oh - almost forgot - Stefan Grossman has an arrangement of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" in Open G that's really outstanding. Tab and audio available, with a bit of searching around because of all the other stuff, at his site www.guitarvideos.com.
