Default Invite for the like minded

Hey folks just wanted to introduce myself and share my youtube videos. My names Billy Brown and I'm an indianapolis based acoustic musician in the Bluegrass/americana/folk/ country blues genres. My main focuses are flat picking travis picking and mandolin. I'm hoping to grow my youtube channel while continuing to learn everything I can. My videos are the highest quality I'm able to produce with two system audio and multiple angle 1080p dslr video. I try to get clear shots of what my hands are doing during solos because I think people like to watch that stuff…at any rate i'd be happy to answer any questions you guys might have about the songs the arrangements the recording and production side of things (gear lenses mics cameras etc) And i'd be very grateful if you'd click that subscribe button and look forward to hearing from ya Thanks BB

Really enjoyed your music Billy.

I'm a new subscriber now too.

I also use an H4N, but I cannot sing (except when no ones at home!).

I set mine about 10 inches out and level 50. I'm not getting near the clarity you are, so I might try to up the levels some and see what happens. Feel free to share your recording tips!

--BTW, I'm Bill Brown too

Thanks for the sub Bill I appreciate it. With the h4n i'd suggest stereo mode mics at 90 degrees pointed at the 12th-14th fret 8 to 10 inches away from the fretboard and the level set to 70 as a good starting point. A good rule of thumb would be to get the level as loud as possible without clipping. Hope this helps ya some thanks again BB

Hi Billy, REALLY great stuff........!!! I recall happening on your post from years back when you did that version of Deep River Blues. Smooth picking......really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing! I too am working via a Zoom H4n and use a bit of the set-up you've described. I feed the condensers into a Rane mic preamp and then to the Zoom unit. Seems to work for my purposes. Rather than the actual setting, I try to adjust the around -12 to -18 db on the meter when recording. (no voice, just instrument)
Glad to hear your music....nice going!
Regards,
Fred

Thanks Fred glad ya liked the h4n vid. The H6 is out now and I've heard the preamps are quieter and better quality. Plus I like the layout better ( more mic options and not digging through a menu to adjust levels) Ill have to get my hand on one for a review. That looks like a hell of a guitar collection your working with. Thanks again BB
