Cuki, where did you have the DPA-4099G pointing at the guitar and at what distance was the capsule from the guitar? Thanks.

The DPA 4099g mic was clipped close to the neck joint as usual and the mic was aimed at the neck joint's fret basically, as you can hear from the mic take.

I don't have a condenser mic for guitar... I should buy one (even two). Maybe at Christmas but I want to buy first a Taylor GS mini bass...

Cuki

Default Martin HD-28 with Trance Amulet M-VT ToneDexter Slot 22 WaveMap Sound File

Use "Wildwood Flower" or "Crossing Muddy Waters" or "Under The Double Eagle" as examples in choosing a tune to use for a demo.

In summary, any amplified tonal shortcomings that Trance users have experienced with their Trance systems I feel could be solved or greatly lessened with a thinner adhesive. Your thoughts welcomed!

I agree with you regarding adhesive for the Trance. I think the Trance can have amazing potential. I wish it was a little easier to tease out. What I am finding with the PUTW #54 is a very linear response from the pickup. I think Cuki did an analysis of the sample file I sent him that showed that. Until you get to the highest registers it's fairly consistent with a dynamic microphone.

I really wish I had a decent mic to record with. I'd be happy to do that Carter style picking for you. I also have a 12 string with the K&K. I haven't been willing to invest in a good mic because I'm not doing any recording lately. Just live acoustic music. But, when I get a chance, I'll record what I've got: K&K, PUTW, and Fishman Aura F1 Plus.

The recording was made with the Trance Amulet M-VT Tone Control on Full-Spectrum tone (Tone Wheel all the way to the treble-end of its travel), and with no additional EQ or Effects. The Shure SM81 small condenser mic was 10-inches out with the capsule pointed perpendicular to the Martin HD-28's 14th-fret neck/body joint. The flatpick is a Charmed Life .75 mm Brown (Vespel) and the strings are Martin MSP7200SW Medium-guage Phosphor Bronze.

So to clarify the SM 81 was used only to get the tone into the Dexter But recording file we are hearing is the guitar plugged into what ever DI you have on your Interface ?

Yes, the Shure SM81 is used only to train the ToneDexter in conjunction with the Martin HD-28/Trance Amulet M-VT to generate a WaveMap of the whole shebang. The SoundCloud recording was made with the Martin HD-28 with its Trance Amulet M-VT plugged into the ToneDexter with the trained Slot 22 WaveMap engaged. The ToneDexter Bass and Treble EQ knobs were set to Flat EQ and the Character Select was set fully clockwise to Full Mic sound. The ToneDexter was fed into a PreSonus Studio 192 Audio Interface and all DAW computer processing was done at 24/48 with Flat EQ and no effects. I'm confident that even better-sounding ToneDexter WaveMaps of the Martin HD-28/Trance Amulet M-VT can be generated by more experimentation with mic placement and perhaps, changing the Trance M-VT Tone Control's position (WaveMap was generated with Tone Control on full-spectrum/full-treble position) during ToneDexter training.

I thought so but wanted to make sure. That being the case the ToneDexter does seem to give a nice mic'ed type sound even when DI'ed, so that is certainly interesting, given how problematic a mic has the potential to be for gig use.
