Time of day/warmups makes a difference....
This morning I was playing, my pinky was stiff, couldn't get my stretches. Since then I worked around the house and fixed the lawn mower. After a late lunch with my wife we stopped in GC so I could get a sound hole humidifier. While I was there I naturally had to take a couple of guitars for a spin and my pinky was fine. Stretching was really good, I hit that note that I keep messing up in Sweet Alla Lee. So maybe not so much the time of day, but a good thorough warm-up makes a big difference.

Barry - could not agree more. I spend about 2-3 minutes before I play each time stretching out my fingers, knuckles, wrists and hands. It makes a huge difference in getting warmed up and hitting chords cleanly.
This getting old stuff ain't for the faint-of-heart.

Yes, me too. I actually have to tune my fingers and my ears up before i play, with some simole stretch exercises on my hands and arms, and then like 5-10 minutes of warm-up strum and scales ... not so much to stretch on those last parts, just to synchronize my body and instrument, kind of like greasing the chain or getting into the mood sort of thing.
