Default Who is going to the Fretboard Summit?

Hi there,

Is anyone planning to attend the Fretboard Summit in San Diego next month? I went last year and had a really special experience. The event was so small, about 300 attendees I think, that I ended up meeting and hanging out with several luthiers and musicians. It was just wonderful.

This year I am particularly curious about T Bone Burnett, Laurence Juber, and talks by TJ Thompson and Howard Klepper - especially since I started the AGF thread about luthiers and CNC machines and Howard is giving a talk called "What is Handmade."

Anyhow, curious to see if folks are going.

Thanks

I'll be there, doing this:

John Thomas & Dale Fairbanks - Beyond Kalamazoo: A Look at the Enduring Legacy of the Women-Built ‘Banner’ Gibsons

Author and FJ contributor John Thomas and luthier Dale Fairbanks talk about the replication of the only “Banner” Gibson every reinspected by its WWII-era inspector. Flatpicker extraordinaire Bob Minner will demonstrate the original and the replica, signed by one of the original Gals and bearing bits of wood that somehow escaped the Gibson factory during WWII, before passing the guitars to the audience.

Be sure to drop in to play the guitars. Here's the minty 1943 SJ I'll have in tow:

I;m looking forward to meeting folks!

I'm looking forward to seeing John. Maybe even getting some hangout time.

I'm not going to make it this year, though I might attend future events. But I just got back to Alaska after nearly a month in the Lower 48, beginning in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.

I had to go back to Missouri to renew my regional accent. They give you this test and everythang....it's kind of like the DMV, only slower.

Seriously, I did attend the Fretboard Summit last year. If you want to rub elbows with some of the leading lights of modern acoustic guitar, both builders and players, it's a great event.

We definitely need to get in some hang time. Plus, there's the Recovering Lawyers Meeting we'll both be attending.

Oh, and one of our traditions is that the newest members buys the drinks.

I live 15 miles away and have guitars right now with both TJ and Howard K, John Thomas' book and his old 1936 L-Century.....I only planned one week of vacation this year and I'll be away that week.....I can't believe all these guys I've talked with on the phone will be in my back yard and I'll be slightly bummed on a beach in Kauai. Maybe it'll be back in San Diego some day.

Seems expensive, $400. If I went I could only go one day.
