Congratulations on your new acquisition! I'm a proud owner of a Fay and I'm 100% certain you are feeling that way too

What a tragedy that Photobucket swiped all the pictures on this incredible build. That guitar is (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful I have ever seen posted on the AGF, and the only Brazilian Kingwood. I don't know where Simon found the wood, but it's the best set of Kingwood I have ever seen.

Any change the OP could re-post a photo or two?

They didn't swipe them, but are holding them for ransom for an exorbitant yearly fee...

Thanks, mesa, for giving us a link up to the pictures of your stunning guitar. I remember following the build.

Still having fun?

I purchased 3 sets from Cook Woods many years ago. I still have 2 more sets - well, actually one since I have a client who will be using one of them for a build scheduled in the next 3 months. The Kingwood is one of my favorite tonewoods on account of its beauty and tone. Unfortunately, it is quite rare in terms of finding this level of quality in instrument size billets. I've been looking for years to acquire more high-grade sets but have been unable to find any.

Here are my other two sets:

Wow, Simon, that is some incredible kingwood. Just gorgeous.

To me, maybe the most beautiful tonewood in the world.

Are there any any extra precautions that need to be taken bending those sides?

Fred,
No precautions - it bends like normal Rosewood. It really is beautiful stuff. It has the coloring of Indian RW but the grain is very clear and not muddy/fuzzy looking upclose like many RW's are. Under a finish, it is one of the most vibrant and dazzling woods I have ever seen. I almost hate to use sets like these because they are so hard to ever replace.

I also read a comment by Bruce Sexauer that stated he had gluing issues with Kingwood. I had not issues at all. I used hide glue for the braces and titebond to glue the back to the rims. The sets I have are not very oil tho' and trees can vary a great deal.
