Default Luthiers known for building 12 string guitars

We have another thread on decent low cost 12 strings so I was wondering who are the solo luthiers who are particularly known for making well regarded 12 strings.

These 3 builders get a mention when you look up 12-string guitars used by Leo Kottke;
Bozo Podunavac
Charles Hoffman
Fred Gerlach.

I'm not sure that any small luthiers are "known" for 12 strings. I'm sure some have over the years made a few upon request and offer them in their selection of guitars that they will build.

I'll throw a plug in for Jamie Kinscherff. I commissioned a 12 strIng High Noon model from him a number of years ago. It was powerful, yet sweet and rich.

Here's one of Jamie's 12 string High Noon models that's for sale. A beautiful piece of lutherie!!

Default 12ers

Nikos Appollonio has built them for a number of famous persons, such as Gordon Bok, Noel Paul Stookey (of PP&M), Judy Collins... and has made over 1000 instruments of various kinds, most with doubled strings. He is also quick and easy on the wallet. Last weekend, Kevin Neidig played mine and I was re-impressed by how great it sounded out front. I am of course usually behind it.

I made an offer on a Appollonio 12-string some years back but it was sold.

Thanks for the contributions. Some names I was aware of but a lot mroe names I had never heard of and that expands my awareness of the talented luthiers who have made great guitars.

I don't believe that he is known for building 12 string guitars, but Al Carruth builds them well. The shop I worked in had a used Carruth 12 pass through, and it was fantastic. Al is a forum member. He mostly posts in the Custom Forum.

While a few luthiers don't consider 12 strings as "real" guitars, most will have built one on occasion - I can't think of any that specialize in them. Santa Cruz has made some really nice F and D body 12 strings, and their new OMG size apparently is a great 12 string body, but I have yet to get my hands on one and try it. Then again, I'm not really looking, since my SC F 12 string in walnut has been outstanding -

+1 on Nikos Apollonio! His instruments are amazing and affordable. He's been building 12 strings for close to 50 years....so he knows his stuff!!

Charlie Hoffman is not building anymore but a second for his 12's. Might find a bargain on a used one.
