Default Whats in your wallet..............er, mandolin

picked up this nice used 2006 Collings MT over at the Cafe. was waiting for me at work today, took my tool box and did a good cleaning all over, speedneck, and string change. it plays like a dream!

seller said it had very nice tone, low buzz free action, a few smallish dings, and just a touch of fret wear. he was spot on. this is one of the nicer sounding mandolins I've had in my hands. price was very acceptable. it had a few upcharge additions: wide nut, pickguard. top body binding. all the hardware is gold toned.

the pickguard was neat. the only ones I have been exposed to screw in under the fretboard extension. this one has two round diameter posts and firmly slides into two holes. it can be adjusted up or down to suit ones placement-it took firm push or pull to move it. i have no idea if this is OEM Collings, but i figure it is. not a pickguard person so i kept it off.

with strings and bridge off, i took a picture or two.

Beautiful...I'll definitely be picking up an MT or MT2 as soon as the finances allow.

I don't think there's a better value out there.

I've had a couple nice, more higher end mandos, and this is the third MT to pass thru-i sold mine(stupid move), my father in law still has his. These are such good mandolins. This one was taken to Carter Vintage and compared to about a dozen big names-it held its own against all the $6000-13,000 mandos there. There were 5 top as picked, it was one of them.

I picked it up used for under $1700, worth every dime.

good luck-some exc mandos out there-buy used

Default congrats

Congrats on the mando!
You've found a GREAT mando in the Collings MT.
I bought one about 8 months ago and it is my 'go to'.
Like the pix, especially the ones showing the 'interior'.
Play on!!
