I'm keeping my 12 string.

Each of them do a specific job well, but I'm wanting a bit of an all rounder that can be amped, preferably cutaway with onboard pickups.
I like the bass response of the Martin, and the neck play-ability of the Ovation. Not that fussed with Takamine, as the neck doesn't suit my hands so its a no brainer.

Budget no more than $2200 US ($3000 AU approx)
cheers
IMO the best guitars to suit your purpose would be an Ovation Adamas. There are a few on Reverb, and most unfortunately beyond your budget, but with some patience and good match might be available even down under.

This one is the top model; though without cutaway, and might be a sweet deal:

I used to have an 1986 Collectors Series Ovation. Excellent guitar and sadly stolen. The Ovation I have now is great, but pales compared to the 1986 version.

It was like this one I found on eBay. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/G8IAAO...Vrw/s-l500.jpg

My only tip is, if you decide to order a guitar on line, be sure it doesn't contain any amount of protected wood, such as rosewood, unless both the seller and you have the required CITES certificates. Without those, the guitar can be confiscated at the border based on what I have been reading in this Forum.

I wont be buying anything at this price point without playing them first.

Any thoughts on the Maton Custom Shop Guitars?
A friend of mine is urging me to go further and consider one as a purchase.

Let me start by saying my Maton experience wasn't a good one but I think they've made some big steps in the right direction to restore and improve their acoustic performance.
The Custom Shop guitars are the cream of their range but is the dread (left) worth $2000 more than the highest spec production model Messiah?(right)

You raised a good point. Haven't had a chance to play the Messiah nor a custom model.

What was your experience with Maton?

I am very impressed with the 70th Anniversary Model (its the neck I'm sold on)-being a production instrument as well. This was after playing the Taylor I mentioned.

The specs are good-similar to the custom, but I suppose being hand made individually by one luthier would be the reason it costs the $5k mark?
